A couple of Fridays ago, the MAcc Council and Fisher College of Business hosted its first “Food Truck Friday.” One thing a visitor to Columbus will quickly learn is that Columbus is chalk full of unique restaurants. Food Truck Friday is a terrific opportunity for students and faculty alike to try some of the most unique ethnic food around, all without even having to get in a car! During this past “Food Truck Friday” four food vendors parked outside the doors of Gerlach Hall at lunchtime. The four food trucks were:
Although it was a tough choice, I went with the Bakmi Ayam Bakar from Aromaku. This Indonesian dish consisted of cooked chicken on a bed of cooked noodles. It was absolutely spectacular.
I am excited for the next Food Truck Friday to try more new places!
Another great aspect of being part of The Ohio State Masters of Accounting (MAcc) Program is being able to take part in the EY MAcc Speaker Series. Over the course of the program, the speaker series invites roughly ten influential individuals in both academic and professional communities to come and speak to MAcc students during lunch time (another great aspect is that lunch is provided for you!)
Professor James Hill
This past week we had Professor James Hill from the Management Sciences department at the Fisher College of Business come and speak to our class about product complexity. Professor Hill specifically spoke about product complexity in the yogurt market with companies like Chobani Yogurt. He discussed the operational strains an organization like Chobani experiences when they must produce 350 variations of one product! Another main discussion was on how the increase in the number of flavors of yogurts availible on the shelfs of grocery stores is changing the risk of food related illnesses. His presentation was rounded out as he showed the students a specific production model that he was able to create through research at a local production plant that would increase efficiency of the plant.
All in all, the MAcc speaker series is designed to be a way to expose students to other areas of academia or professional enviornments that might not be directly adressed through coursework in a fun and interactive enviornment!
One of the great benefits to being an Ohio State student is being able to take advantage of all of the fantastic opportunities that are offered to the student community. Whether it is the 1000+ student organizations, football Saturdays, recreation facilities, or top-notch education programs, Ohio State has it all. One amazing program available to Undergraduate Accounting students in the Fisher College of Business is the BSBA/MAcc program.
What is it?
The BSBA/MAcc is a program in which a student can gain both a Bachelors of Business Administration and a Masters of Accounting degree in four years (3 years as an undergraduate Accounting major, 1 year in the Masters of Accounting Program).
How do I know if I am eligible?
In order to apply students must be:
1) An Undergraduate Accounting Major
2) Have at least a 3.5 Cumulative GPA
3) Have at least 120 credit hours prior to enrollment in the MAcc program
4) Have all undergraduate required classes completed except for ACCMIS 4200, ACCMIS 4500, ACCMIS 3400, and BUSMHR 4490
5) Have taken the GMAT
Why should I do the BSBA/MAcc program?
The BSBA/MAcc provides a terrific opportunity for accounting student to get an undergraduate and graduate degree in a shortened time frame. The BSBA/MAcc is also a terrific opportunity for students pursuing a career in Public Accounting to satisfy their 150 credit hour requirement to sit for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Exam!

Even though this is now my Fourth year as an Ohio State Student, football Saturdays in Columbus are still just as exciting as they were when I had first arrived on campus my freshman year. How could you not have a good time when The Shoe is packed with 100,000+ fellow buckeye fans!?!
This past Saturday, the #1 ranked Buckeyes played host to the Western Michigan Broncos. It was the Buckeyes final chance to get to all of the early-season kinks out prior to starting conference play.

The highlight of the game came on an interception by senior defensive lineman Adolphus Washington which was returned for a touchdown as Ohio State cruised to a convincing 38-12 victory.
Another special part about attending football games as a student at The Ohio State University is the tradition of singing Ohio State’s Alma Mater, Carmen Ohio. At the end of a game, the entire football team stands in front of the student section to sing with their fellow classmates! If you come to The Ohio State University as a Graduate Student, attending at least one football game should be at the top of your list!

In this blog post I will show you what the day-time home of a Fisher Graduate Student looks like! Masters of Accounting, Finance, Human Resource Management, and Business Administration alike all share Gerlach Hall. So come along as show you some of the most popular places in Gerlach Hall according to Fisher Graduate Students.

2nd Floor Graduate Student Lounge
The Graduate Student Lounge is the popular place for group meetings, eating lunch, or taking a break in between classes. It is also conveniently located just a floor below a majority of classes!
Classroom in Gerlach Hall
A majority of the classrooms in Gerlach Hall are set up in a similar style–concentric semi-circles surrounding a speaking area. This design is great for stimulating classroom communications as well as interactive lectures.
Graduate Student Computer Lab
This computer lab, which is only open to Graduate Students, is located on the Second floor of Gerlach Hall and is open 24/7. Every graduate student is given a login and password and a print allotment for all of their classroom material needs.
It is also important to point out that Fisher Graduate students get out of the business school to explore all of the other great aspects of Ohio State’s campus outside of The Fisher College of Business! Stay tuned for a note on the most exciting experiences an OSU student can have when The Ohio State Buckeyes football team takes on The University of Hawaii at home on September 12th!
