Reaching Out MBA Virtual Conference
My journey through the Fisher MBA program would not be the same without Reaching Out MBA (ROMBA) - the LGBTQ+ organization for MBA students. In early October, I got to reconnect with old and new friends during the conference, which refueled and energized me! I honestly didn't know what to expect this first weekend, due to the entire conference being virtual, but this conference really stepped up its game.
I started my journey with ROMBA last year during the treks on the west coast and met some amazing people that I continued connecting with in New York, and Atlanta this past year! For the first time, I was surrounded people that not only had the same goals as me, but also were a part of the LGBTQ+ community. That type of connection and support from other folks in my community was like no other!
There was face to face interaction for students and companies looking to may connections. Students got to spend at least 15 minutes with different companies one-one-one, which is amazing that this could happen in a virtual setting! The theme of the conference was “Life through a New Lens”. That’s exactly what happened throughout this conference, we had no choice but to go through this conference with a different approach.
This new way of living has forced us to reimagine what living life through a different lens looks like. This entire conference was done via zoom and planned virtually. The system used for scheduling was top-notch and clear! There were sessions I attended that had immediate impact on me and the current climate that we are in today. This was important for ROMBA to showcase their support behind and understanding the times that we are going through as a community, which made the conference all the more relevant.
I hope that I will get the chance to go back to ROMBA to sit on the other side of the table and recruit for an organization! I would love to be able to give back to ROMBA and future MBAs what the organization has given to me!
