Columbus is the place to be!
In my first post, I emphasized that Columbus is a modern city. Fortunately, there is still an awesome feeling of community both in Columbus and on campus. Since classes just started on Wednesday, I have had plenty of time to participate in the many things happening here. There are so many events for basically anything you have in which you have an interest! The following is a list of some ways I have experienced community this week:
Having 20 people in one living room, cheering on the Buckeyes, and knowing thousands of people around the state/country are doing the same thing
Joining hundreds of people in Steps 4 Sarcoma, a 5K run or walk to raise money to fight a rare form of cancer
Joining a diverse group of people on the COTA #2 (a Columbus public transportation bus that goes straight down High St.)
Witnessing some people on this bus giving up their seats for older passengers
Hearing a man thank a local church for helping his family when their house burned down
Filling University Hall and the Union with other students to learn more about how to get involved in the many things going on at OSU
Learning about a grad student’s study on how tomatoes may help fight cancer
Going with other MAcc students to Buck-i-frenzy, a fair of free things from companies near campus
Being excited to randomly see other MAcc students around campus or Fisher and then taking time to chat
Going to a picnic for graduate students of various majors
Joining other Buckeyes in the Union to watch Pirates of the Caribbean, complete with popcorn, soft pretzels, cookies, and cotton candy- for free !!
Participating in elections for MAcc Council. It was awesome to see everyone stay and talk to each other afterward!
Going to Dump-n-Run, which is basically a big garage sale by and for OSU students
As you can see, there is plenty to do here when you don't yet have a lot of homework. Being part of the MAcc/Ohio State/Columbus community is AWESOME!
