USA Pavilion in Shanghai World Expo
I was fortunate to be able to go to the Shanghai Expo 2010 before classes started for autumn 2010. I think most of you might be interested in the U.S.A Pavilion at the expo. The USA Pavilion's theme at Shanghai Expo 2010 is "Rising to the Challenge." It tells the story of the American spirit of perseverance, innovation, and community-building in a multi-dimensional, hi-tech presentation. The Pavilion presents the U.S. as a place of opportunity and diversity where people come together to change their communities for the better.
When I entered into pavilion, the officer played a video for us. There are many Americans who learned how to speak Chinese in the video. They pronounced NIHAO (Hello), HUAN YING (Welcome) and other greeting phrases, which is really amazing! In the theater within the pavilion, the visitors were introduced to see the 4-D movie GARDEN, which was my favorite part in the U.S.A Pavilion. It is a story about chasing dream. A young girl drew a blueprint for a vacant city lot. She showed her blueprint to her neighbors who live near the vacant city lot and tried her best to persuade the neighbors make an effort to turn the vacant city lot into an urban oasis. Finally, the young girl realized her dream by working with those neighbors. It is a story of American spirit of perseverance, innovation, and community-building. Though the movie is a visual "parable" without dialogue, many visitors were deeply impressed by the wonderful American spirit. In addition, the music in the movie is wonderful. If you go to the expo, don't miss it!
