Fisher connects me to the Remarkable Mr. Charles Dankworth
In October 2009, The Leadership and Professional Development Team took off with its Corporate Mentoring Program. We filled in a very detailed description about ourselves – career goals, future industry, future role, Dream Company, etc. This whole process is to understand our career goals and match it with a guru from the industry who can help us provide insights from the industry.
In January that suspense came to an end when I met my corporate mentor for the first time. He is the Remarkable Charles Dankworth. Mr. Dankworth has been in the Financial Industry for the last 29 years. After graduating from Fisher College of Business, he worked for Dean Witter & Company. Then he moved to Morgan Stanley when it acquired Dean Witter. He worked for Morgan Stanley for around 20 years. Right now, he is the Senior VP and Portfolio Manager in UBS Financial Services and operates from New Albany, Ohio. He started talking about snippets from his life and everything he uttered was as exciting as Wall Street . Because of the extensive experience and knowledge Mr. Dankworth brings to this program, I am confident that this experience will prove to be as valuable as any class I will take while in school.
After the meeting we planned the next road map for my career goal. The next step is for me to visit his office and learn what and how they create value for their clients. He also gave me a few contacts to meet and understand more about the industry.
Having gotten a feel for the type of man Mr. Dankworth is, I should not have been surprised by what I came home to today. I got a parcel from UBS and opened it up to find a book inside. The book is The Ascent of Wealth by Mr. Niall Ferguson, and was sent by Mr. Dankworth. Of course, I was surprised, and it is something that I will keep with me for the rest of my life as a token of respect for Mr. Dankworth.
Mr. Dankworth- You are the best! Thanks for inspiring and mentoring me, and I look forward to your guidance through these tough and turbulent times.
