This Week with Nick Fischer
Hello folks. I was expecting a relatively slow week as compared to the first 5 weeks of the quarter. However, this was not the case.
- Skyline Chili - This is originally a Cincinnati treat but there are locations spread throughout Columbus. For those unfamiliar with Cincinnati Style Chili, it consists of a chili sauce spread over spaghetti and topped with mounds of cheese. I sampled the Bethel Road location (which I think is the closest to Fisher Commons). Most importantly, they were running (and I think still are) a fantastic Thursday evening special - 1 free cheese coney with any purchase!
- Case Competition - LK beat me with the first mover advantage, but I'll differentiate my product slightly to take away some of her market share. KZ, JL, RC, and I participated as Team 3 in the P&G sponsored case competition that took place 11.05.09 and 11.06.09 at FCOB. I was very impressed by the ideas and detail that my teammates came up with and the quality of the finished product we delivered. I was also very impressed by the ideas, detail, and quality of all the teams that participated. This event proved to be another where our class was highly commended for our participation and abilities. In the end, Team 3 finished 2nd behind a very, very well done effort by ND, SM, BB, and PB. Team 3 did finish with two individual awards - RB with Best Presenter and yours truly with the "Power of People" award. All in all, I really enjoyed the experience.
- Diwali - I joined 99 of my fellow classmates and their guests to celebrate Diwali on Friday evening. In brief, this was a ton of fun with some great people, great food, and great dancing!
- MBA Party - After Diwali, I headed down to a classmates apartment for a social event. About 30 MBA's and their guests were hanging out and mingling with each other. As the night progressed, discussions continually got louder so that each group of people speaking could hear over the hum created by all the conversations. As we learned in Prof. Campbell's Economics course, this is an example of the prisoner's dilemma. Each person's dominant strategy is to speak louder so they can be heard. However, this leads to a continual increase in volume, which is bad for everyone. Ironically, this led to a noise complaint and the Columbus Police Department showing up. No one went to prison though.
- Brewery District - I had the opportunity to eat dinner in the Brewery District of Columbus on Wednesday evening. We had diner at Claddagh Irish Pub. Typical Pub fare with some locally brewed beers; worth at least checking out.
- Montgomery Inn - While this is originally a Cincinnati restaurant, there is a location in Columbus. This evening (Saturday) I will be traveling to Cincinnati to visit a couple friends for dinner at Montgomery Inn's original location in Montgomery. If you like ribs, you should definitely check out the location in Dublin.

That's all folks.
