Getting ready to apply? Here is your quick checklist!

Since we process applications on a rolling admissions basis, it is always advantageous to apply early – as applications are submitted and become complete, we will review them and make admissions and financial aid decisions. The application is now live, but we will not begin reviewing completed applications until September 2.  Our first deadline is not until October 15, so you have plenty of time to get ready.  Here is your quick checklist:

1) Request an official copy of any transcript you have from an undergraduate or graduate institution where you received any credit.  A scanned or electronic copy of an official transcript is all you need to submit for application review purposes.

2) Register to take the GMAT or the GRE.  The GMAT is still our preferred test for the MBA program if you have not yet taken either test; however, we will accept the GRE and you will not be at any disadvantage if you choose to take the GRE.

3) Request individuals to serve as your references.  We require TWO letters of recommendation yet request THREE if you think you will be qualified to receive the highest levels of merit-based aid.  We prefer letters of recommendation from current or previous supervisors, followed by letters from colleagues, clients, professors, or anyone you may work with on a professional board or community organization.

4) Update your resume.

5) Start thinking about and drafting your essays.

6)  International students only – register for the TOEFL or IELTS.

Application Checklist

New IELTS minimum score

Attention international applicants:

For those of you that plan to take the IELTS exam in place of the TOEFL, please note the very recent change to our score requirement.  We have recently lowered the minimum IELTS requirement from a score of 8 to a score of 7.  Thanks to the recommendation of Ha, one of our student ambassadors, and the subsequent analysis and benchmarking that she performed,we concluded that a score of 7 is more appropriately aligned with our minimum IBT TOEFL score of 100.  Hopefully this will be encouraging news for any of our international applicants who may have been concerned about the “unattainable” score we had set previously.

Happy testing!

A note to international applicants regarding TOEFL

We receive inquiries from international applicants who are concerned about their TOEFL or IELTS scores. The Fisher MBA program prefers the following:

  • An overall score of at least 100 on the Internet-based TOEFL exam  **or**
  • A band score of at least 7.5 on the IELTS.

The MBA admissions committee will still consider your application if you score below these minimum recommendations. However, the committee will review the TOEFL or IELTS scores when determining your abilities in English.  Strong English skills are critical to success in our program, not only in the classroom but also with employment recruiting. Therefore, if your scores are well below our suggested minimums, it would be to your advantage to retake the exam.

PLEASE NOTE: Be sure your name, as listed on your TOEFL and/or IELTS score reports matches exactly your name as listed on the application. If your name does not match exactly on the TOEFL/IELTS and your application, the chances of your application being significantly delayed are increased greatly.

TOEFL Speak Score: We prefer to see a score of 20 or higher on the speak section of the TOEFL.  Applicants who are offered admission to the program with a TOEFL speak score of 23 or lower will be selected for evaluation for free supplemental English instruction upon arrival at Fisher.
