Patience from applicants = happy admissions office

As you might imagine, December is a bit busy here in the Fisher Graduate Programs Office.  We have just passed a priority deadline and applicants are anxious to confirm that their materials have been received in time to be considered for admission and for financial aid.

Please keep in mind that there is manual work that has to be done to match your online application with the rest of your application materials, as it does not get updated in “real-time.”  Also note that it takes about 20 days from your test date for us to receive official GMAT scores (and longer if you’re submitting GRE scores) and 13+ days from your test date to receive TOEFL scores.

Please wait at least five business days for your application checklist to be updated to reflect the status of your application materials received by our office.

Note, the Graduate Programs Office will be closed on Tuesday, December 24, Wednesday, December 25, and Wednesday, January 1.

We wish you a safe and happy holiday season and a happy new year!

What to expect after December 15th!

As you probably know, this Wednesday, December 15 marks our priority funding deadline for full-time MBA admission for Autumn 2011.

Here is what you can expect in terms of the admissions process over the next several weeks:

  • Remember that once you submit your application, our processing office has to match up your application form with any supplemental materials you may have sent previously or have yet to send.
  • Once we have identified any materials that belong with your application, we will update your checklist on your online application so you can check to see what is still missing.
  • Once you have a completed application, your file will be put into review.  During this time of year, the review process generally takes 2-3 weeks.
  • Once your file has been reviewed, you will receive communication about the status of your application.  Possible outcomes include:
    • request for interview
    • defer a decision until a future date/waitlist
    • application not accepted/deny
  • If you are invited to interview, you will be given access to an online appointment scheduling site that will enable you to schedule an in-person, phone, or Skype interview
  • Upon completion of an interview, you can expect to hear a decision within 1-2 weeks.  Possible outcomes include:
    • admission
    • defer a decision until a future date/waitlist
    • application not accepted/deny
  • If you are offered admission to the program, you will learn if you are eligible for any merit-based financial aid within 2 days of admission notification

Please keep in mind that:

The Graduate Programs Office will be closed on Thursday, December 23, Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

The MBA students are currently on winter break until Monday, January 3.  Our student ambassadors WILL be checking the mba@fisher.osu.edu email account during break, except on holidays.

I wish you all the best of luck with your application to the program.  Please be patient with us over the next several weeks. We will do our absolute best to communicate with you on a timely basis, but it is the holidays after all, so mail delays and staff absences may create a back-log as we process all of your applications.

How do I know if I made the deadline?

With the first application deadline rapidly approaching (October 29), we are getting lots of questions from concerned applicants, wondering whether they will “make” the deadline/consideration for our $1,000 professional development stipend.

In an ideal world, an applicant that intends to apply by this deadline should have all application materials (online application and required supplemental materials) in to the Graduate Programs Office (GPO) by Friday, October 29.  We realize that there are mail delays and processing delays, however.  As such, your application will be qualified for consideration if you submit the application online by Friday, October 29 and ALL remaining supplemental materials (transcripts, test scores, essays, resume, recommendation letters) have been received by the GPO by Friday, November 5.

Don't wait until the last minute! (And be thankful the Director of Admissions doesn't really look like this!)
