Fast Track Fridays

This year, you have the opportunity to get on a fast track to admission to Fisher by participating in one of our Fast Track Fridays.  If you pre-qualify, you will be invited to come to campus for an admissions interview before you have even completed the application process.  A select number of prospective full-time MBA candidates will be invited to come to campus during a designated Friday for a pre-admissions interview.  In return, you can expect an expedited admission decision upon submission of your required application materials.  Come on Friday, submit your application materials on Saturday and you could have an admissions decision the following Monday.  If you do not have a completed application by the Monday following your Fast Track Friday, you will receive a final decision on your application within 3-5 days of completing the application process.

How do you qualify to attend?

1. Start your application to the MBA program!

2. Send your resume to the MBA admissions office with Fast Track Friday in the title and your preferred Fast Track Friday date in the message

3. We will be in touch with you within 3-5 days to inform you if we have a spot available for you to attend!

Essay changes for 2013 application

The new application for 2013 will be ready to go in mid-July and we will begin reviewing applications at the beginning of August.  Essay content will not be different for this year, but there is one major change – we will only have TWO required essays instead of THREE and you will have a choice for your second essay.  The application instructions will look like this for the essay section:

Essay #1Shaping Your Vision

Every year Fisher College’s Full-Time MBA program admits a select group of talented professionals with demonstrated potential to become successful business leaders in an increasingly competitive, global environment. Why do you want to earn an MBA degree in general and a Fisher College MBA in particular? How will Fisher specifically assist you in achieving your individual potential? As part of your response, include a brief summary of your professional accomplishments to date. If you have not held a full-time job or are still in college, let us know about your leadership accomplishments in a school, internship, or extracurricular context.

Maximum words: 750

Essay #2 – CHOICE*
For your second essay, choose either Focusing on Leadership or Discovering You.

Focusing On Leadership*

One of Fisher’s strengths is its dedication to developing leaders. Listed below are 10 attributes that characterize great leaders. Please select the two criteria that best describe your strengths and provide us with concrete evidence to support your choices.

Write an essay for each of the two characteristics you select, describing situations in which you exemplified these leadership traits. Please title each of your essays with the specific trait (e.g. ‘endurance’) that you have chosen for yourself. As part of your essay response, you may include a digital photo or link to content (e.g. blog, video clip, website, etc.) if that content helps to illustrate the attribute(s) you have chosen.

  • Integrity
  • Empathy
  • Curiosity
  • Endurance
  • Creativity
  • Global awareness
  • Passion
  • Vision
  • Self Awareness
  • Communication and interpersonal skills

Maximum words: 500 per attribute

Discovering You*

As a Fisher College MBA student, you get the best of both worlds: the up-close and personal feel of a small program combined with the resources and opportunities offered by a major research university. As an individual participant, you will play a key role in shaping our culture. Consequently, we would like to learn more about who you are and the unique characteristics you will contribute to the Fisher College community. Provide an honest description of yourself outside your professional context, stressing the personal characteristics you believe to be your strengths and weaknesses, along with the factors that have most influenced your development to date.

Maximum words: 750

We are also adding the opportunity for you to include supplemental information within the online application module. In the past, if you wanted to share information with the Admissions Committee that was not covered in another section of the application, you had to email it to us separately. This year you will see the following section:

Supplemental Information (Optional)
Please feel free to provide a statement concerning any information you would like to add to your application that you have not addressed elsewhere.

Maximum words: 250

Get ready for the new GMAT!

If you are thinking about applying to MBA programs this fall, you probably are aware that the GMAT is changing next month – June 5, 2012 to be exact!  The Graduate Management Admissions Council is introducing a new Integrated Reasoning (IR)section into the Next Generation GMAT.    The IR section will include texts, charts and/or tables; mult-source reasoning; graphics interpretation and two-part analysis.  You get to use an on-screen calculator with this section – exciting!

The verbal and quantitative sections will not change and will still comprise the score on the 800 scale that you are used to seeing.  The IR section will have a separate score on an 8 point scale.  A main difference with the addition of the IR section is the switch to just one analytical writing assessment.

The new test format will look like this:

30 minute Analytical Writing Assessment

30 minute Intergrated Reasoning Section

75 minute Quantitative Section

75 minutes Verbal Section

Total 3 hours, 30 minutes (4 hours total time commitment, including breaks)

You may be wondering how business schools are going to evaluate applicants using this new section.  Honestly, it is too early to tell.  I know that I am excited about the opportunity to evaluate candidates based on skills that are highly relevant and criticial to academic success in a business school classroom.  The questions in this section will ask you to synthesize, analyze, and organize information from a variety of sources to draw a conclusion and solution to a problem.  Since we have no historic scoring data, we have nobody to compare to, so my thought is that the first test takers of the new section have an advantage – you can set the bar for those to come after you!  I do not anticipate that the scores on this section will have a dramatic impact on admissions this next cycle.  Once we all have a better idea of how the section is scored and what the correlation is between scores on this section and performance in the classroom, we will have a much better sense of how much weight to put on it.  In the meantime, happy studying and good luck!  Visit mba.com to register for the GMAT and access practice tests.

One important note – with the addition of the new section, it will take a bit longer for us to get your scores.  We have been told that it will take about 20 days to receive them.  Please give yourself enough time to take the exam when planning around your application deadlines.

Spring Interview Day

Thinking about getting your MBA and wondering if you are too late to start this fall?  Good news!  Fisher reserves a limited number of seats in the Full-Time MBA class for individuals who may have realized a bit late in the process that the MBA is the best next step for them.  We understand that sometimes things happen – in either work or our personal lives – that makes us rethink our plans and choose a different course of action.  If you are thinking that it might be a good time to make a change and you are ready to take that next step, consider attending our spring interview day on Friday, April 27.

You may request an invitation to attend here.  Candidates that are invited to join us will be guaranteed an admissions interview for the fall semester 2012 enrollment term.  Join us for lunch, a program overview, and a tour of campus in addition to your interview and receive an expedited admissions decision shortly after your visit.

We look forward to learning more about you!

$500 book scholarship for February applicants

For all of you slow pokes out there who need an incentive to finish up your application and hit the “submit” button, here it is:

Anyone who applies to the Fisher Full-Time MBA program between now and March 1st (our next deadline) will receive a $500 scholarship for books and/or case materials, provided that you are offered admission and enroll at Fisher in the fall.

Need another incentive?  If you apply quickly enough, you may still have enough time to earn your ticket to our Red Carpet Admitted Students Weekend.  What does that mean?  Well, Red Carpet is our Admitted Students Weekend, so an invitation to Red Carpet follows an acceptance into the Full-Time MBA program for Fall 2012.  Red Carpet will be held the weekend of March 30-31.  More on Red Carpet to come, but first, get in that application!!

That $500 will go a long way, especially on used books!

Join us for Fisher Debut!

On Saturday, February 25, we will be hosting an on-campus recruiting event for those of you that would like to learn more about Fisher or are currently in the process of submitting applications to the program.  This particular event is called Fisher Debut and will enable you to learn more about the Fisher MBA program in person, without having to give up a day of work.  Activities will take place in the morning and early afternoon and will include a MBA program overview, sample class, lunch with faculty, and tour with student ambassadors.  All prospective students that attend Fisher Debut will be guaranteed an evaluative interview (interviews are usually offered by invitation only, upon review of a completed application) that can be conducted on Saturday afternoon, after the event has concluded.  If you are not interested in conducting your interview on the 25th, you will be able to schedule your interview for another time upon completion of the MBA application process.

You may indicate your interest in attending Fisher Debut here.  Once you submit your interest form and resume, we will be in touch with you to inform you whether we have a spot available for you to attend the event.  Attendees will be eligible to receive partial travel reimbursement, if applicable.

We look forward to seeing you in February!
