Summer Programs Task Teams With Real-World Analysis

The third year of the Global Summer Program, offered through Fisher Professional Services, sent eight teams of undergraduate and MBA students to Ireland and Hong Kong.

Students had opportunities to work on site in professional consulting projects for companies such as Microsoft, NCR, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Limited Brands. The projects focused on a variety of functional areas such as strategy, finance, and marketing.

“From our education at Fisher, we learned a lot of tools and, during the summer, we were able to put many of those tools together to work toward a single result.”

One team, for example, was tasked by Bank of America Merrill Lynch Hong Kong with analyzing the security of transactions and regulatory rules within banking systems in Islamic countries. The team then presented its findings to the firm’s managing directors.

“We were forewarned about the CTO (chief technology officer) who was very sharp and very aggressive,” said student Andrew Serhal. “I remember when we were presenting, she said: ‘Stop, stop, everyone stop.’ We looked at each other nervously, and she said, ‘This is great.’

“At that point, we knew we were a success.”
