|A Letter from the Dean|
Focus. It’s an essential element to any good business plan and, as I reflect on my past several years as dean, it’s also an essential element to advancing Fisher College of Business from excellence to eminence.
Everything we do at Fisher is guided toward preparing graduates to make an immediate impact in business, and generating significant and relevant insights and knowledge through our world-class faculty research. These two objectives define our focus because, when executed well, they ensure that Fisher fulfills its mission as one of the great public land-grant institutions that makes critical contributions to the economic vitality of our nation and the world.
This focus drives our vision to form strong partnerships with the worldwide business community and, in doing so, elevates everything we do — our research, our teaching, our student experience and preparation, and the practice of business.
Our partnerships enable Fisher students to be trained in the classroom with what they will experience in the real world — providing experiential learning opportunities that prepare students to make an immediate impact in an increasingly complex and fast-paced global business world.
We create learning environments in which faculty and business executives introduce relevant, up-to-the-minute business challenges for student exploration. And Fisher students often step out of the classroom and off the continent to experience business where it is conducted — with all of the intricacies that firsthand knowledge imparts.
Our unique ecosystem of experiential learning is central to the Fisher education. Our partnerships, through the rich network established by faculty expertise and through our centers, provide the gateway to extraordinary opportunities for students and faculty to both learn and lead.
I believe that our results point to something special. Business and government leaders have made Fisher a destination to seek expertise, mentor students, and generate national dialogue that impact strategies and decision making.
We are proud of our accomplishments, yet Fisher, like the business world around us, will continually advance and innovate to ensure that our students — through both their intellect and their hearts — make bold and lasting contributions to the practice of business.
