ACCOUNTING INTERNSHIPS IN WINTER QUARTER 2009
The Ohio State University -- Max M. Fisher College of Business
Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems

The Winter-Quarter Accounting Internship Program at The Ohio State University provides an accounting major with the opportunity to obtain a full-time internship experience during the winter quarter of each academic year. The internship is a salaried position with an employer that actively recruits our accounting students. In existence for over seventy-five years, Ohio State's Accounting Internship Program is well established and nationally respected. In addition to the CPA firms that traditionally participate in our program, several other organizations also conduct campus interviews for accounting interns.

Between seventy and eighty per cent of the students who interview receive offers for intern positions. During the twenty-seven winter quarters from 1982 to 2008, approximately sixteen hundred and fifty Ohio State students accepted internship offers. If you meet the program's eligibility requirements, we encourage you to participate in it.

Campus interviews for internship opportunities in Winter Quarter 2009 will be conducted from May 5 to May 16, 2008. Intern employers then invite candidates to participate in additional interviews during summer office visits. Internship offers are to be made and accepted by August 22, 2008.

In addition to being a declared accounting major, the academic requirements for participating in this program are: (1) a 3.0 cumulative point-hour ratio (PHR) in accounting; (2) a 2.5 cumulative PHR overall; (3) satisfactory completion of either Accounting & MIS 627, Auditing, or Accounting & MIS 626, Tax Accounting I, by the end of Autumn Quarter 2008 (note that satisfactory completion of either Accounting & MIS 627 or Accounting & MIS 626 is not a requirement for participating in the spring-quarter campus interviews); and (4) a graduation date in 2009.

If you meet these requirements and are interested in having an accounting internship during Winter Quarter 2009, YOU MUST BEGIN YOUR EFFORTS IMMEDIATELY. The first step is to obtain an "Internship Information Package" in Fisher 400 (open from 7:30 to 5:00 Monday through Friday) by no later than Friday, March 28, 2008. Then follow the instructions listed in the Information Package's gold sheet entitled "Accounting Internship Activities and Rules."

The next step is to register with Career Services through Fisher Connect and complete all the requirements to acquire QUIC (Qualified Undergraduate Interview Candidate) status. If you do not have QUIC status, you will not be permitted to interview on campus in spring quarter. For more information, contact Career Services at 292-6024 or stop by its office, Gerlach 150.

Several activities take place in spring quarter before the campus interviews:

  1. You must attend a one-hour Orientation Session, conducted by Career Services (see the gold sheet in the Internship Information Package for the dates, times, and locations of this session).
  2. You should plan to attend the two extremely valuable meetings: "Winter 2009 Accounting Internship Night" (Thursday April 17, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the OSU Faculty Club) and "War Stories of Accounting Interns" (date, time and location TBA).
Since an intern employer considers your internship to be the first step in recruiting you for a full-time permanent position, you must select a city where you would not only prefer to intern but also be willing to begin your professional career after you graduate. If you do not select a preferred internship location in advance, some of your campus-interview time will necessarily be devoted to this subject, thus decreasing your opportunity to discuss your qualifications, achievements, and experience. During the past three winter quarters, Ohio State accounting interns were located in nineteen cities: Atlanta, Birmingham, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Denver, Fort Worth, Houston, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Toledo, Washington, and Zanesville.

To assist you, the names, employers, and locations of the Ohio State accounting interns in winter 2008 are presented below. Note that this merely for your information. Do not infer that internship opportunities exist only in the winter 2008 locations. An intern employer wishes to locate you wherever your want to locate. However, you must take the initiative to select a city. Geographical preferences such as "None" or "Open" are not acceptable!

If you have any questions, please contact Professor Ray Krasniewski, the Coordinator of the Winter-Quarter Accounting Internship Program, Fisher 444, e-mail address: krasniewski_1@fisher.osu.edu and phone numbers: 292-1822 (office) and 882-5899 (home).
