DeSales senior Elijah Allen
throws down a dunk in the
Stallions' 92-56 home win over
league rival Ready Friday.

Any questions about whether this year's version of the DeSales boys basketball team could be as potent and powerful as last year's final four outfit may have been answered emphatically Friday.

The Stallions (12-3, 6-0 Central Catholic League) had all their pieces in place in a 92-56 home mangling of league foe Ready.

"When you look at it from a performance standpoint, as high as we've set the bar, our challenge is to do that as often as possible," coach Blair Albright said. "We feel like if we can do that it'll prepare us for tournament play.

"I was just really proud of the way our kids responded. We've talked a lot about what our identity is and I thought the kids really focused on the things that we do well and really put that out there for our opponent to play against."

The tenacious trio of seniors Dane Johnson, Elijah Allen and Alex Kellogg led the way with 60 of the team's points, scoring every way possible.

Kellogg notched 22 with a variety of post moves and powerful dunks, Johnson got his outside shot working -- hitting 4 of 5 three-point tries -- and Allen brought the house down with a huge dunk as part of his 18 points.

Throw in nine points on three three-pointers from sophomore sharp-shooter Zak Gaborcik, and DeSales was hitting on all cylinders.

"Tonight was one of our best performances of the year," Johnson said. "We got it done defensively and that helped our offense. We just have to keep playing and progressing every game before we get into the tournament."

The Stallions were to have played at Worthington Christian Tuesday before hosting CCL rival Watterson Friday (8 p.m.) and Hartley Tuesday (8 p.m.).
