Final Project

 

Team Composition:  Three or four students per team.  Students choose their own team members.  Members of the same team receive the same grade.

Project Scope: The application should be business-oriented.  That is, it should help solve certain business problems or support certain business operations.  For example, systems can be built to support the operations of apartment complex, pizza shops, airline flight information and reservation, doctor and dental offices, etc.

An integration of friendly user interface with a database management system as well as a substantial degree of sophistication is expected.

Evaluation criteria: (1) significance and sophistication of the project, (2) user friendliness of the system, (3) technical soundness, and (4) clarity of users' handbook.

Timeline:

(1)  October 15:  submit lists of team members  (Each team should send me an e-mail including names of team members and SIDs)

(2)  Until November 29 or December 1:  work on the project

(3)  November 29 & December 1:  presentation  (project due on the date of presentation.  Presentation schedules will be posted here later.  Presentation orders will be randomly assigned with the exception that graduating seniors may request an early date to make the presentation.  Such requests should be made at the time when team lists are submitted.

Advice: In the past, teams that performed well started early.  Do not procrastinate.  Plan and start to work on the project as early as possible.

Submission:  (1) a 3.5" disk or a Zip disk, (2) your virus detection certification statement, (3) a description of the project including the business process it supports and its significance, (4) a users' handbook that briefly describes how to operate the system, (5) a hard copy of your program code.  Put your names and SIDs on all materials submitted.

Your virus detection certification statement should read "We have checked our disk for viruses and certify that the disk is free of viruses."
