Your Fisher experience will not be about classes only: It will be loaded with opportunities to hone your leadership capabilities and polish your professional skills.
You can attend a consulting seminar run by a Deloitte executive, practice your presentation skills with your coach, take a "creativity in business" workshop, or simply work on your networking skills. Events also include lunch-time speakers, evening career development seminars, and networking events, such as the annual alumni dinner or wine-tasting nights.
Hone Your Leadership Skills
Effective leadership requires skills that go beyond academic pursuit. Fisher offers numerous opportunities for you to invest in yourself, develop your leadership abilities, and maximize your professional development.
Fisher regularly invites business and political leaders to share their experiences and views with our MBA students--a very fruitful platform from which to learn from today's ambassadors and visionaries. Through our Leadership and Professional Development curriculum, you will expand your perspective to encompass a broader understanding of the world, as well as gain polish and social skills.
Launch Your Personal Development
Strong and effective leadership is built on sound "knowledge of thyself." Right from the beginning of your Working Professionals MBA program you will have the opportunity to take a self inventory with tests such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. This process helps you develop clearer perceptions of yourself and your environment, as well a sense of sound judgment, and, ultimately, better define your next steps following your MBA.
Building on this self knowledge, our Working Professional MBA students can choose from a rich toolbox of applicable skills training opportunities, from the popular "Creativity in Business" workshop to a presentation skills seminar to interviewing techniques training. Some of our students also lead or participate in community service initiatives which may involve pro bono consulting with local businesses or simply running the Fisher 5K for a charitable cause.
Build Career Expertise
Whether students are looking to progress in their current career or make a transition into a new one, the LPD program, in addition to Fisher's professional Career Services team, plays a central role in helping students explore different career options and opportunities.
You can learn - in a seminar on Marketing - about different types of marketing careers that exist. For instance, you may decide that brand management is for you once you have met with a representative from Limited Brands who visited campus. Or, you can join one of the day-long individual career events that focus on a particular professional option such as consumer product careers. At Fisher you'll have abundant opportunities to reach the career destination of your choice.
Interested in the relationship between business and government? Many of our Working Professional MBAs choose to participate in a Washington Campus seminar to get first-hand exposure to the political process and its impact on management. This seminar is an intensive, one-week course repeated in five different sessions in Washington, D.C. The Washington Campus seminars are designed to equip students with the understanding necessary to anticipate, influence, and respond intelligently to government initiatives.
Networking Opportunities
Knowing how to network is one of the key building blocks in advancing your career. Consequently, as part of the LPD curriculum, you'll have the opportunity to learn about effective and innovative networking approaches from thought leaders in this field.
You will have ample opportunity to practice your newly learned skills at a variety of events organized through the college. These may include social gatherings, such as the Fisher alumni tailgate breakfast prior to home football games, our wine tasting events, or the annual alumni awards dinner. Networking opportunities also abound throughout the year at a variety of other alumni and executive events.
Meet Our Speakers
Speakers at Fisher bring opportunities for intellectual discourse, personal interaction, and small-group networking. High-profile business leaders from around the globe come to Fisher to speak about their perspectives on leadership and notable experiences in their professional lives.
