Fisher College of Business Biz Quiz

The eighth annual Fisher College of Business Biz Quiz competition will be held on November 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2013. Student teams from 15-18 universities will come to the Ohio State University campus from every corner of the nation to be tested on their knowledge of current business events using a fast-paced game show format.  The competing undergraduate teams will be quizzed on articles that appeared in The Wall Street Journal from September 16 through October 28, 2013. Biz Quiz is a competition that enriches the students’ experiences and develops them as professionals.  According to Helen Dashney, Biz Quiz Advisor from 2006-present, “[Students] find reading [The Wall Street Journal] cover to cover is additive to their classroom learning and a good habit to develop before entering the professional world. Additionally, our students love meeting teams from other schools, comparing notes on school, careers, special interests, etc. as well as competing head-to-head. Several of the connections they make last well beyond Biz Quiz weekend.” Ms. Dashney is the Director of Corporate Academic Relations and the Director of the Financial Markets Institute at The Broad College of Business at Michigan State University.

Biz Quiz’s value was best summarized by Eric Hornung, student team member from 2012 from The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business.   He states: "In an education system that so frequently focused on theory, proofs, and equations, Biz Quiz offers students the opportunity to see how these ideas are used in business. The best part is the interdisciplinary nature of the [news]paper. While finance heavy, elements of Law, HR, Marketing, Economics, Accounting, etc. are found daily. Biz Quiz truly teaches its participants a holistic view of the business world."

In 2012, University of Kentucky team finished victorious over University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Texas A&M. Team winners in the written competition were first-place University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; second-place University of Maryland and third place Michigan State University.
