Q: Who may obtain a FCOB e-mail account?

A: Fisher e-mail accounts ( lastname_#@fisher.osu.edu ) are available to college-affiliated faculty, staff, lecturers, and PhD and graduate students. At this time, students enrolled in the Fisher undergraduate program do not receive a Fisher e-mail account.

Q: How do I establish a FCOB e-mail account?

A: Faculty, staff, and PhD students must request a Fisher network account, which includes a Fisher e-mail account. A completed and signed account request form can be obtained in 320 Mason Hall or at your department's front-desk. Once an account request form is received and processed by Information Technology Services, a printed account form with your Fisher username and password will be delivered to your department's office.

Graduate student account creation is automatic once a student has been enrolled for classes and we receive the appropriate information from OSU. Normally, graduate students receive their account forms during their program's orientation.

Q: How is my FCOB e-mail account different than my OSU e-mail account?

A: The two e-mail accounts are completely separate. Your Fisher e-mail account ( lastname_#@fisher.osu.edu ) is hosted on systems operated by Fisher Information Technology Services, while your OSU e-mail account ( lastname.#@osu.edu ) is hosted on systems operated by the OSU Office of Information Technology (OIT). The two are separate accounts, each with a different username and password.

We recommend that you forward your OSU e-mail account to your Fisher e-mail account. Refer to the E-mail Forwarding Knowledge Base for instructions.

Key features and benefits of your Fisher e-mail account include:

  • Integrated server-side anti-virus scanning
  • Much larger e-mail quota
  • Access to integrated e-mail, calendar, contact, and task management
  • Access to college-wide address book

Q: Does the FCOB e-mail system offer integrated calendaring and contacts?

A: Yes. The Fisher e-mail system is built upon Microsoft Exchange. Using Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 and 2007 for Windows XP and Vista or Microsoft Entourage for Mac OS X, you have access to a fully integrated e-mail, calendaring, contacts, and task management system.

Q: How do I send e-mail?

A: If you are using Fisher webmail or Microsoft Outlook or Entourage configured as an Exchange client, the outgoing e-mail settings are automatically configured and you may send to any e-mail recipient.

However, if you are accessing your e-mail via one of the remote e-mail protocols listed above (POP3 or IMAP) from an e-mail client, outgoing mail will be restricted. For more information, please read the E-mail SMTP Knowledge Base.

Q: Is outgoing mail from the FCOB network restricted?

A: Yes. Please read the E-mail SMTP Knowledge Base for details.
