Bill RivesSenior Lecturer, Finance
BiographyDuring a career spanning more than three decades, Professor Rives has held teaching and research appointments at Duke, Princeton, Rice, Trinity University (San Antonio), the University of Delaware, and Franklin University (Columbus). His consulting engagements include Aetna Life Insurance, USAA Life Insurance, USAA Real Estate Company, the National Institute on Aging, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the US Department of Commerce. At Ohio State, Bill teaches Business Finance, Financial Planning, Risk Management and Insurance, and Life and Health Risk Management in the Finance major; and Enterprise Risk Management in the MBA program. He also manages Ohio State's CFP® Certification Education Program, a CFP-Board-registered program designed for working professionals who want to complete the education requirements for the CFP® Certification Exam. Bill is a member of the American Risk and Insurance Association, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and the Society of Financial Service Professionals. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations. He is also a licensed life and health insurance agent in Ohio and has been working in insurance and financial services, both as a consultant and a general agent, for more than two decades. His principal expertise is retirement income planning and retirement asset management. Bill is a frequent speaker on financial planning issues for professional, civic and non-profit organizations.
