Business Honors Learning Community
Co Curricular Experiences
The Business Honors Learning Community will focus on helping students become successful Fisher College students and citizens through a threefold approach.
These three components will be interconnected throughout the entire program through a variety of curricular and co-curricular opportunities.
Curricular and Co-Curricular Experiences
Students will participate in an early move-in to campus in order to begin building relationships with their peers and FCOB staff and faculty. The events for this period of time may include, but are not limited to, team-building activities, icebreakers, tours of the FCOB campus, an introduction to the focus company, and group meals. Students will also be enrolled in a clustered survey course, Business Administration H100, during autumn quarter.
In the spring quarter, a seminar on leadership will be taught by a Fisher College graduate student in the Masters of Labor and Human Resources program. Participation from both FCOB faculty and corporate sponsors will be incorporated into the seminar. This seminar will give students a structured forum in which to continue developing their leadership skills and make deeper connections with one another and with the LC partners.
In the spring quarter students will also participate in a Case Study Competition and work in teams to solve “real” business problems (case studies) created by the sponsor company, and relevant to their business focus. Corporate sponsors and mentors will work with students to guide the process and provide feedback. Each team will present their results to the BHLC students and staff members and corporate sponsors. These presentations will culminate in a case study competition/reception to recognize all participants.
Students will be expected to register with the Career Services office in Fisher College of Business as soon as possible. In addition, there will be professionalism workshops spanning the entire academic year.
Autumn: Etiquette Dinner
This workshop will prepare the students to interact professionally with the business executives they will encounter through the year. Professional dress, handshakes, and dining etiquette are a few topics that will be discussed. Etiquette “coaches” from the Fisher community and sponsor company will be used.
Winter: Networking w/ Appetizers
This workshop will further prepare the stduents to interact professionally with others. Introductions, "elevator speeches" and appetizer etiquette will be discussed. Again, etiquette "coaches" from the Fisher community and sponsor company will be utilized.
Spring: What’s Next? How to Network and Maintain Relationships
Since the formal LC program will conclude after spring, it is important for students to continue to network and make contacts within the business world, with faculty and staff members, and with other students in the Fisher community. Strategies and the relationship of networking to jobs/internships will be discussed.
