PhD Application Requirements

For applicants currently or previously enrolled through OSU Graduate School: Complete a "Transfer of Graduate Programs Form." Have a copy of the file from your previous OSU graduate program sent to The Fisher College of Business Graduate Programs Office, 100 Gerlach Hall. In addition, you need to provide to the Fisher College the following items: 1) three new recommendation letters For NEW applicants to OSU Graduate School: All items listed below must be sent to: PhD Admissions, Graduate Programs Office - Fisher College of Business, 100 Gerlach Hall, 2108 Neil Ave., Columbus, OH 43210. 1. A Completed Application Form 2. Non-refundable application processing fee payable via credit or debit card. 3. Two official (original or certified, not notarized) transcripts from each post- secondary institution attended. These must be unopened. Certified English translations must be enclosed if the originals are not in English. 4. Official GRE General Test scores (the PhD GRE institution code is 1592) or official GMAT scores. A copy of the student-issued score may be included in the application package; however, official scores must be received directly from the test administrator by The Ohio State University before the application will be reviewed. 5. OSU Graduate Admissions requires a TOEFL score from all international applicants unless that applicant has received a degree from an institution where courses are instructed in English (click here for list of exempt countries). Even if you are exempt from the TOEFL for the reason stated in the previous sentence, the Fisher College of Business PhD review committee still requires (at minimum) a photocopy of your latest TOEFL score as part of your application packet. 6. Test of Spoken English ("TSE"): All admitted PhD students are funded if they requested funding on their application. Part of the funding package is a requirement to teach. The laws of the State of Ohio require that every non-native-English-speaking graduate teaching assistant (TA) pass a competency test in spoken English before that individual is placed in the classroom to teach. The Fisher College of Business and the Ohio State University have NO AUTHORITY TO WAIVE THIS EXAM. Click here for more info on the TSE. 7. Three (3) Recommendation Letters written on the recommender's letterhead, attached to the Ohio State Reference forms and returned in sealed envelopes. 8. A Statement of Intent highlighting academic and work experience, career objectives and motivation for pursuing a PhD. 9. A current resume/vita. 10. Do not send extra copies of materials to us via surface mail that you have already provided to us in your online application. The only materials that should arrive in the Fisher Admissions Office via surface mail are: i) official transcripts and ii) recommendations from any of your references who have chosen not to use the online option. Note to international applicants: Do not send bank statement/supporting financial documentation with your application. If you are admitted you will be given instructions via email on how to supply financial information to The Ohio State University. |
