Master in Business Logistics Engineering Overview

Designing and coordinating the flow of goods and information through supply chains is one of today’s fastest growing and exciting professions. This growth is the result of changes in the business environment such as the globalization of markets and sources of supply, the availability of information technology and an unprecedented level of competition among firms. Companies are continuously challenged to reduce logistics costs while simultaneously providing higher service levels to their customers.

In response, many firms are looking for a new breed of logistics professionals who combine strong managerial and technical skills. To prepare you for this promising field, Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business and College of Engineering are jointly offering a specialized graduate program, the Master in Business Logistics Engineering (MBLE). The logistics and supply chain management program is a long standing tradition at Ohio State. It is currently ranked 4th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.

The MBLE Program

One of only a few similar programs at top universities in the country, the MBLE is designed to enable graduates to enter the job market equally comfortable with logistics strategy, the management of logistics operations, and engineering tasks such as facility design and implementation of logistics technology. Purposely keeping the program size small and selective we recruit the finest students and attract some of the most sought-after career opportunities in the country.

The Course Work

The MBLE is a 45-credit-hour program. It includes courses in logistics and supply chain management, warehouse design, logistics technology, mathematical programming and computer simulation. Students taking 16 credits per quarter may complete the program in 9 months, while students taking 12 credits per quarter will complete the program in 15 months.

Our Faculty

The MBLE draws its faculty from the Fisher College’s Department of Marketing and Logistics and the College of Engineering’s Department of Integrated Systems Engineering – both ranked in the top 20 in their fields by U.S. News & World Report. MBLE faculty are committed to teaching new ideas and creating new knowledge. This makes for a relevant and engaging learning environment where you’ll be able to dig in and challenge yourself. Our faculty are considered top leaders in their field yet they know you individually and are interested in your progress and ideas. For more information on faculty research, please visit the Fisher College of Business Marketing & Logistics faculty site and the College of Engineering's Department of Integrated Systems Engineering page.

OSU faculty members are also very involved with industry problems and practices and use industry ties to make the MBLE program applied and relevant. Industry contacts are also fundamental to generating summer internships and placements.

Our Placement

With a MBLE degree, you’ll have a wide range of career options including logistics and supply chain design, logistics modeling, logistics or transportation analyst, inventory or warehouse manager, as well as careers in the consulting and software business. As support, Fisher’s Career Management team act as personal coaches in your career development, providing one-on-one counseling as part of your targeted job search. In fact, 90% of our graduate students find jobs within three months of graduation. This success rate places Fisher 3rd in the nation where your career prospects are the brightest according to the Princeton Review.

OPT Extension

The MBLE has been qualified as a STEM OPT degree. This is a special case of OPT legislation whereby international students in technical fields (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are eligible for a 17 month extension of the OPT period. This means that international MBLE students are eligible to work in the US for up to 29 months after graduation. That’s nearly 2 ½ years. You can visit this government source for additional information about the STEM OPT. The STEM OPT might significantly improve the placement of international MBLE students.
