Fisher College of Business

Prospective Masters of Accounting

Admissions

Prerequisites

Admission to the Fisher MAcc program is open to graduates with the equivalent of an accredited four-year U.S. bachelor's degree in virtually all areas of study: liberal arts, business, engineering, and other. In addition to an undergraduate degree, the Fisher MAcc program has some specific prerequisite course requirements for admission (Ohio State course numbers in italics):

  • Principles of Financial Accounting (AMIS 211)
  • Principles of Managerial Accounting (AMIS 212)
  • Intermediate Financial Accounting I (AMIS 521)
  • Intermediate Financial Accounting II (AMIS 522)
  • Intermediate Managerial/Cost Accounting (AMIS 525)

You do not need to complete the prerequisite courses at Ohio State University. The admissions committee will review the applicant's transcripts to see that s/he has completed these courses at time of application. The Fisher MAcc Admissions Committee will accept/review an application from an applicant who has completed only principles of financial accounting and principles of managerial accounting - but will require proof of having completed intermediate financial and managerial accounting prior to being allowed to enroll in the program if conditionally admitted. Conditionally admitted students who need to complete the intermediate financial accounting and intermediate managerial accounting prerequisites can opt to enroll in the PreMAcc Seminar. Offered through the Fisher Executive Education office, the not-for-credit six week PreMAcc Seminar is designed for admitted MAcc students who wish to meet the prerequsites in a very time-efficient fashion.

In addition to the above prerequisites, the MAcc program strongly recommends evidence of the following courses completed at the time of application (Ohio State course numbers in italics):

  • Microeconomics (Econ 200)
  • Statistics (Stats 133 or higher)
  • Calculus (Math 131-132 or higher)

You do not need to complete the strongly recommened courses listed above at Ohio State University. In addition to the above prerequisite courses, all applicants are required to sit for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). The Admissions Committee will assess a student's qualitative and quantitative potential and ability to succeed in our program.
