Technology

The transition from F2F (face-to-face) classroom learning to “virtual world” online learning can be difficult for some people. You are expected to become proficient at the use of email, discussion posting, video conferencing, audio conferencing and other online interaction for this course to meet your learning needs. You will be asked to post questions and comments about course content to Carmen open discussion areas so that other students can benefit and respond. Many courses in the Regional Business Program make use of faculty lecture video clips . These video clips use the MS Windows Media Player to display on the computer and can be quite large. We can ensure that these clips are playable in regional campus computer labs. We cannot ensure that these large video clips will display on home computers without high speed network access such as Road Runner or DSL. If you have a modem connection at home, please view streaming lecture and other course video materials at regional campus computer labs.

Your courses may utilize video conferencing for weekly class sessions. Video conferencing provides students and faculty with direct contact and interaction. Please cooperate with requests by program staff to sit where you can be seen by faculty and students at other campuses. Video conferencing utilizes microphone “pods”, usually 2 per classroom and placed so that all students can be heard. These microphones have a center “on” and “off” button that glows red when the microphone is muted . The microphones must remain muted until someone needs to speak at your site because they are very sensitive and pickup all background sounds. Students sitting nearest the microphones are asked to moderate microphone usage for other students in the classroom by un-muting (red light off) microphones when someone wants to speak. This procedure will be demonstrated the first night of class.

The Carmen course management system is used for delivery of many program courses. Carmen provides course materials and communication features including the course syllabus, handouts, assignments, quizzes, exams, email, discussion posting areas and audio conferencing .
