Service Learning Activities

Students in the Honors Cohort Program are required to apply their academic education by participating in community service outreach activities. Each student must commit to volunteer 30 hours each school year in focused service learning activities in addition to any of their own personal volunteer activities. These community service activities are structured to integrate the concepts that they are learning in their core business classes, developing their team building skills while providing them an opportunity to volunteer side-by-side with business leaders.

The following are examples of the unique service learning activities in which Honors Cohort students have participated:

  • Junior Achievement of Central Ohio: Partnering with inner-city grade schools, Honors Cohort students teach elementary students the fundamental principles of business and economics.

  • Columbus Sister Cities International: Honors Cohort students designed and staffed the Columbus Sister Cities booth for the annual Columbus International Festival

  • Judicial Education Center at the Ohio Supreme Court: With the opening of this new education center in January 2006, the honors cohorts were among the first volunteers to serve as tour guides explaining the legal process to community and school groups while reinforcing their knowledge of Business Law (H510).

  • The Humane Society: Using their marketing talents, Honors Cohort students created advertisements for the annual Ho-Ho-Happenings fundraiser

  • American Red Cross Blood Drive at Nationwide: While working closely with Nationwide’s management team, the honors cohort students applied their Marketing skills to successfully meet the challenge of increasing blood donor participation from employees at this large financial services firm.

increase associate blood donations. Please come back!"
