Case Competitions
Case competitions challenge students' analytical savvy and presentation skills and help to prepare them for the real competition of the business world. Established by the Fisher College in 1992, the Big 10 MBA Case Competition allows MBA student teams to pit their skills against each other in friendly competition at a professional level.
Minority Case Competitions
In 2007, a team of three Fisher MBA students competed in the National Black MBA Association's (NBMBAA) Case Competition held in Orlando, Florida. Since 1994, the college has sponsored a team to the case competition held in conjunction with the national conference.
The Ohio State University has placed as a finalist in three NBMBAA National Case Competitions (Detroit-1998, Orlando-2001, and Philadelphia-2003). OSU NBMBAA Case Competition Teams have also won three NBMBAA Regional Competitions (Columbus-1999, Atlanta-2000, and Nashville-2001). $9,000 was awarded to each of the three winning regional case competition teams. OSU Case Competition Teams also placed in the following: 2nd in the University of Illinois at Chicago Minority MBA Case Competition (2004), 1st in the First Annual KeyBank MBA Student Case Competition (Winter 2005), and 3rd in the Second Annual KeyBank MBA Student Case Competition (Fall 2005).
After coordinating and facilitating two successful KeyBank Minority MBA Student Case Competitions, OSU received $255,000 (three year commitment of $85,000 per year) from the KeyBank Corporation to host its Annual KeyBank Minority Student MBA Case Competition. The annual event, now considered one of the nation’s premier minority MBA student case competitions, invites 16 universities from around the United States to compete in its Minority MBA Student Case Competition held in Cleveland, Ohio at KeyBank Headquarters.
Business Plan Competition
The exciting Fisher College Business Plan Competition returns this year, sponsored by Deloitte & Touche and open to Ohio State and the community at large. Teams consisting of at least one OSU student or alumni interested in creating a new business will prepare through preliminary activities, including workshops taught by executives from nationally known companies.
Workshop topics may include learning how to develop and write a business plan, creating a new venture management team, evaluating the market potential of new technologies, making financial projections and studying legal issues in new venture creation.
