General Registration Information
(instructions on how to register, etc.)
- Step One: Look for an e-mail during the second week of the current quarter with your registration window
- Step Two: Before your window opens each quarter, meet with your advisor to review planned course
- Step Three: Prepare course selections prior to your window opening for the following quarter. CHECK FOR HOLDS ON YOUR ACCOUNT. You will need to have holds cleared 2 days prior to your window opening.
- Step Four: Go to the University Registrar's website during your assigned registration window to schedule classes. Please note that you will need your University e-mail account and password to access this site. You should also schedule as soon as your window opens to receive the most likely chance of getting into the courses that you want. To register for classes, you must visit the web site for the OSU Registrar at http://www.ureg.ohio-state.edu/ourweb/online.html and select the Current Students tab. Then scroll down to select “Access Buckeye Link for registration information (new window)”. Next, select “Web Registration for Courses” to begin to schedule your courses. Click here and scroll to Registration Instructions.
- Step Five: Review your approved schedule of classes that was sent via e-mail during the 10th week of the quarter. You can make changes to your schedule on the Registrar's website.
- Step Six: Review your statement of account on the Treasurer's website, and pay fees. Payment should be made by the fee payment deadline to avoid late penalties.

Waitlist Information
- Waitlisting is a special service which enables students to efficiently register for courses which are not immediately available due to full sections. Your request will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis whenever a space becomes available. The waitlist is not section specific, so the system will add you into the first available section that fits your schedule. NOTE: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK YOUR STATUS FREQUENTLY BY VISITING BUCKEYE LINK AND CHECKING YOUR POSITION.
- WARNING: You may be forever frozen in place on wait lists for courses you would really like to take. This is because of three factors: 1) You have already added other courses to make your current course load near or equal to your credit limit (typically 20 credit hours; 2) You have scheduled a place holder course in a slot which needed to be reserved for a course for which you are waitlisted; and 3) There is a financial or other hold on your account that prevents registration. In any of these cases, you will be bypassed on the waitlist even if a course opening becomes available because our system, being entirely logical, will determine that: 1) Your credit hour limit cannot accommodate another class; or 2) You already have found a replacement course. Please clear your schedule of unwanted courses if you wish for the waitlist to work to add courses in the order in which you are wait listed.
If you still have waitlist courses in which you no longer have an interest, please remove yourself from the waitlist via the Buckeye Link. Releasing second choice courses already on your schedule back into the resource pool is the most effective way of assuring that you get the classes you really want. Often your placeholder class will remain available even if you cannot get into first choice courses.
Eligibility Requirements
(holds on your account, etc.)
Special Permission Forms
(independent study, etc.)
Students can receive “special” free elective credit either by engaging in an independent study or by enrolling in a non-MLHR level course offered elsewhere in the University. Students pursuing an independent study for “special” free elective credit are required to produce a study proposal (much like a course syllabus) for the intended project. Please contact your academic advisor, Misty Little, to learn more about either option.
Carmen
Carmen is OSU's course management system. Instructors utilize this system to build a class website and include their lecture notes, pose discussion questions, post news announcements, chat with students, email or page class members, link discussion questions to specific course materials, and create web pages with Carmen's built-in HTML editor.
Students can use Carmen to keep track of their course material, drop off assignments in the dropbox, work in groups, and check their grades.
