Cullman Symposium History
The late Dr. W. Arthur Cullman was a respected scholar and nationally recognized marketing expert. Retired from a 30-year teaching career at The Ohio State University as a Professor Emeritus of Marketing in the Fisher College of Business, he served on the boards of a number of major corporations and was an active business consultant.
Dr. Cullman distinguished himself during his academic career in many ways, including the Ohio Governor’s Award and an induction into the Central Ohio Business Hall of Fame. Dr. Cullman and his wife, Cecilia, became well known in central Ohio for their personal philanthropic and civic service, and in 1985 the couple was presented with Columbus’s Temple Israel Community Humanitarian Award.
The W. Arthur Cullman Symposium honors Dr. Cullman by providing a forum in which business professors and business practitioners meet to consider and discuss a single business issue. Long a believer in “live cases,” personal testimonies by leading executives and administrators presented to students in classroom settings, Dr. Cullman was committed to furthering such exchange throughout his teaching career.
It seemed a fitting retirement gift in honor of Dr. Cullman to launch a symposium that would link educators and executives in an open communication process. Established in 1981 and sponsored by the Fisher College of Business, the Cullman Symposium features a rich diversity of topics and attendees — business professional and executives from a variety of industries, renowned research and teaching faculty from throughout the United States, and talented students — which combine to provide a continuing forum for sharing and learning, one of which Dr. Cullman would no doubt be proud.
