Student Organization Web Hosting

Fisher student organizations have the option of utilizing Fisher web hosting. IT Services has a process in place for granting access and providing training to make managing a site as simple as possible for student group leaders.

Getting Started

Any student group site with a URL that begins "https://groups.cob.ohio-state.edu/" is hosted by Fisher. Follow these instructions for access to your Fisher hosted group site:

• Determine which member(s) of the group will be responsible for maintaining the group’s website. A Fisher name_# account is required for web editing rights.
• Send any desired updates for the group’s directory listing at http://fisher.osu.edu/student-groups to webmaster@fisher.osu.edu
• Choose one group member to serve as your point of contact with IT Services for any questions related to the group’s website
• Ask your group advisor to email webmaster@fisher.osu.edu listing the group name and the Fisher name_# ID of each student who should have editing rights

A required 30-minute training session from IT Services will introduce your group's web editor(s) to the content management system. Updating a student group site requires no previous experience or knowledge of HTML; the only requirements are a Fisher login, an Internet connection, and a current browser.

Customizing Site Appearance

In order to keep student sites secure and ensure ease of use for all groups, Fisher hosting offers limited template customization.

• Several themes are available through the content management system
• Custom content - including RSS feeds, recent posts, links, upcoming events, etc. - may be added to each site's sidebar(s)
• Provided an acceptable high-resolution photo, IT Services can add a custom banner and/or group logo to the site
