Fisher Wireless Certificate Update

Due to an upgraded security certificate, Fisher wireless users may see a security warning starting February 17, 2011. This update is required to maintain current service and will bring the college’s wireless network into compliance with current industry standards. 

Mobile devices that are currently configured to use OSU wireless or FisherClients will not be affected.

Please follow the instructions for your operating system below to maintain your security and access to Fisher wireless.

Bullet Windows 7

  • If computer does not automatically connect to the “fisher” network
    1. Right click on the wireless icon in the system tray in the bottom right corner next to the clock. Select the “fisher” wireless network.  Click Connect
  • You may be prompted for Fisher username (lastname.#) and password
  • In the resulting Windows Security Alert window, click the Details arrow and verify that the Radius Server ends in “cob.ohio-state.edu”.  If valid Radius Server click Connect.
    • If the Radius Server is not valid please contact the ITS Helpdesk

Bullet Windows Vista

  • If computer does not automatically connect to the “fisher” network
    1. Right click on the wireless icon in the system tray in the bottom right corner next to the clock. Select the “fisher” wireless network.  Click Connect
  • You may be prompted for Fisher username (lastname.#) and password
  • In the resulting Validate Server Certificate window, click the View Server Certificate button and verify the Issued to setting ends in “cob.ohio-state.edu”. If valid Server Certificate click OK to accept the new certificate
    1. If the Issued to is not valid please contact the ITS Helpdesk

Bullet Windows XP

  • To configure the network, right click on the wireless connection in the system tray located in the bottom right corner next to the clock.
  • Choose View Available Wireless Networks.
  • From the left column of the "Wireless Network Connection" window, choose Change advanced settings.
  • In the Wireless Network Connection Properties window that appears, select the Wireless Networks tab.
  • Select “fisher” in Preferred Networks and click Properties
  • Click on the Authentication tab.
  • Under EAP type click Properties
  • Choose PEAP from the "EAP type:" menu option.
  • Under "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities"
    • Click “Equifax Secure Global eBusiness CA-1”
    • Click “GeoTrust Global CA”
  • Click OK four (4) times to exit each of the wireless property boxes.
  • You may be prompted for Fisher username (lastname.#) and password

Bullet Mac OS

  • If computer does not automatically connect to the “fisher” network
    1. Open System Preferences à Network.  Select “fisher” network
  • You may be prompted for Fisher username (lastname.#) and password
  • You may be prompted with a Verify Certificate window. Within the window, select Show certificate.
  • Click thecheckbox next to Always trust "eap.cob.ohio-state.edu" and then click the Continue button.
  • If you are prompted to "Type your password to make changes to the Certificate Trust Settings," type your computer password and click the OK button.
  • Click Apply within the Network Preference window.

Bullet iPod Touch, iPad or iPhone

  • To configure your device for the Fisher wireless network, please navigate to this page from your iTouch, iPad, or iPhone and then click on the following:
  • When you receive the login prompt, enter your Fisher username and password.
  • At the Install Profile screen, tap Install.  You will once again be prompted for your Fisher username and password.
  • Once the profile is installed, tap Done.   You should now be able to connect to the Fisher wireless network while on the Fisher campus.
