Projects

ITS has modeled its project methodology on proven management techniques. Staffed with highly motivated and skilled teams, ITS continues to deliver successful, quality solutions and services to the Fisher community.

Fisher clients can submit project requests by scheduling a meeting to discuss the request with the appropriate ITS personnel or by submitting a request to the ITS helpdesk (helpdesk@fisher.osu.edu).  Support ticket requests may be considered as projects if they require significant effort, extensive definition or additional budget.

Each project request will be evaluated by ITS to validate the strategic fit and feasibility.  Once approved, ITS will meet with the requesting client to ensure a complete understanding of the request and to document requirements.  The project will be prioritized based on operational impact, financial impact, security compliance, and complexity.  Projects will be scheduled based on priority and resource availability.

Below is a snapshot of some of important projects that ITS is currently working on or has successfully completed as part of the ITS Strategic Plan:

Advisor Scheduling - Undergraduate and Advising Office

Status: In progress
Contact:  Joddi Giacobbi (giacobbi_1@fisher.osu.edu

The growing undergraduate student population and changing technology has made the current process of manually scheduling advising appointments obsolete.  The Undergraduate Programs and Advising Office has experienced issues such as duplicate appointments, long lines and heavy call volumes.

The objective of this project is to improve the process of scheduling advising appointments by increasing visibility of advisers and adviser availability and providing a 24/7 self-service option for students to reduce burden on staff in order to meet the demand.

 Quarters to Semesters Conversion

Status: Completed
Contact:   Joddi Giacobbi (giacobbi_1@fisher.osu.edu

The Ohio State University will be converting from quarters to semesters in the summer of 2012. With this change, there are a number of Fisher systems and processes that will be impacted. This project evaluated current Fisher systems to determine any impacts as a result of the quarter to semester change. For systems that are affected ITS has developed system modifications to ensure that the transition will occur successfully.

 Server Virtualization

Status: In Progress
Contact: John Jacobs (Jacobs@fisher.osu.edu)

The server virtualization project will develop a state-of-the-art consolidated server and storage infrastructure that can be used to provide a set of server hosting services to Fisher College of Business.  The project will provide for application level flexibility, quick and easy redeployment of computing resources, high availability and redundancy, decrease in physical server cost and more efficient usage of system resources.

Data Loss Prevention

Status: In progress
Contact: John Jacobs (Jacobs@fisher.osu.edu

Fisher will be a pilot group for the enterprise data loss prevention project.   This project will implement a system that is designed to detect potential data breach incidents in timely manner and prevent them by monitoring data while in-use (endpoint actions), in-motion (network traffic), and at-rest (data storage).  The project will also formalize a policy to determine ownership of data, the resolution of violations and standards for data handling.

Upgrade of College Conference Rooms

Status: In Progress
Contact: Eva Bradshaw (bradshaw_3@fisher.osu.edu

ITS will be refreshing all Fisher department conference rooms and installing A/V equipment in conference rooms that are not already equipped.  Each conference room will be installed based on a standardized design using equipment which will allow for more efficient maintenance and support.  The conference rooms will also be included in an ongoing equipment refresh cycle to ensure up to date equipment and functionality.

Password Management

Status: In Progress
Contact: John Jacobs (Jacobs@fisher.osu.edu)

It is security best practice to require password changes after a certain period of time and doing so will align with the University’s security guidelines.  This policy introduces a significant and ongoing burden of changing, resetting and helping users to manage their passwords.  This project will implement a solution that will allow college users to manage, change or reset their Fisher passwords as a self-service.
