Student Web Space
Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I access my student web space?
- The Fisher College of Business FTP server is accessible only with a valid student lab account. Although the naming convention is based on that of your OIT @osu.edu e-mail account, it is completely separate. If you do not know your username and password, this can be obtained from FCoB IT Services (located in Mason Hall 320) during normal business hours. See the Web Spaces page on the Knowledge Base for connection instructions.
- Can I just automatically list the contents of my web directory?
- This is known as "directory browsing". For security purposes, directory browsing has been disabled. Instead, it is advised that you create an index file in your directory, in order to properly direct viewers of your website. To create an index file, create a file with one of the following names:
- index.html, index.htm, default.htm, default.html, home.html, or index.php
- This file can then be populated with HTML content to customize the presentation however you wish.
- What can I post in my web space?
- Any information about you that you want to publish on the Internet and are allowed make publically available. For example, you could post your resume, personal photos, or your life's story. However, you cannot put up your class notes, papers, or any copyrighted material. (Note that images downloaded from other websites are probably copyrighted!)
- What is my individual Fisher College of Business URL?
- Your site's URL is determined by your Fisher username. The pattern is:
- student.cob.ohio-state.edu/~lastname_#
