Educational Technologies Online Learning Area
Main contact : Randy Spears

The Educational Technologies Online Learning support area is here to support faculty and staff in the use of educational technology and in efforts in the area distance learning learning. With that in mind, we prioritize providing:

  • Consultation and support for Carmen
  • Instructional design
  • Training and support services
  • Distance learning support for video-delivered projects

Our second priority is to serve the college community, including administrative units and other entities in the college.

We serve university personnel and are stewards of university resources. As servants, we will assist and lead faculty in their roles as educators in the areas of educational technology and online learning in fulfilling our primary mission to enhance academic outcomes. As stewards, we are responsible for maintaining equipment, facilities and systems, providing the best possible sustainable environment for successful learning in the college. This means that we will coordinate the resources we are responsible for in way in which everyone gets the best possible results.

Carmen Support
The Ohio State University uses the course management tool Carmen. Carmen is web-based software that allows instructors to place courses online using an icon driven interface. It also allows for assessments, online discussion, mail and chat, along with offering a gradebook.

Policies
Due to the limited staff of the Online Learning support area, we cannot be everything for everyone. In some areas, we can be full service, but we are unable to provide in-depth production support to develop materials, courses or other projects. Our model is based on empowering faculty and staff through training to provide skills that increase knowledge and outcomes.

Carmen Courses

To place portions of a course online, faculty are encouraged to attend training sessions provided by TELR or by arranging one-on-one sessions provided by the Online Learning support area of Educational Technologies

Training

The Online Learning support area of Educational Technologies can provide training in Carmen and other multimedia products. It would preferable to provide training to small groups, but one-on-one sessions can be arranged.
