Accounting Careers Awareness Program
ACAP-OHIO is an innovative career development program designed specifically for minority high school students. This fully-supervised, week long summer residency program was developed to give minority students an opportunity to explore careers in accounting and business.
During their stay on campus, students attend a variety of business and college preparatory workshops and are introduced to topics such as accounting, finance, economics, computer technology, and business management. ACAP-Ohio is sponsored by the NationalAssociation of Black Accountants (NABA), and the Ohio Society of CPAs (OSCPA) in conjunction with the Fisher College of Business, which has hosted the program for the past sixteen years.
ACAP-Ohio 2014 was held June 8 - 13. Students selected to attend will receive free room and board, books, materials, tours and mentoring associated with the program funded by prominent regional and national accounting firms and corporations. Candidates for ACAP-Ohio must complete an application, obtain one personal reference, write a 200-word essay and submit official transcripts. Students may apply online at www.FutureCPA.com.The deadline for submission of application materials was April 1st, 2014. Students accepted into the program were notified by April 25th, 2014.
Throughout ACAP-Ohio's 19 year history, the program has successfully impacted participants. The most recent survey results of ACAP-Ohio alumni show that nearly 100% of respondents have gone on to college or plan to attend college and more than 76% reported that ACAP-Ohio influenced their choice of college major. Nearly all participants agree that the program gave them a greater appreciation for the role of accountants and CPAs in the business world.
