Why is it important to tell Career Management what my plans are?
Fisher students have many successful experiences while they are students – great internships, study abroad, service experiences. And, when our students graduate, they take solid business positions or go on to continue their studies in graduate school, some do military work and some get involved with their family’s business. All of these experiences are reflective of the strength of our undergraduate program and our business school. Many people – employers, prospective students and parents, and current students – want to know what kinds of experiences Fisher students have outside the classroom and what they do when they graduate. Some of this information also is included in decisions about rankings. Salary data is used to help current students as they seek jobs and internships – the data provides a benchmark from which they can compare offers.
It is the responsibility of Career Management to collect this information and we rely 100% on self-reported information by our students. We need as many students as possible to tell us what they’re doing so Fisher has sound data.
How will that information be used?
The information reported by individual students is pulled together into aggregate form and used for a variety of purposes:
- Salary data is provided to employers who often call us so that they can “price” their internship or full time offer competitively.
- Salary data is provided to current Fisher students so they have more knowledge about the market and can evaluate their offers.
- Employment statistics, graduate school and study abroad data helps us consult with prospective students and parents who are considering attending Fisher.
- Employment statistics, salary data and graduate school information are required for us to provide for rankings by Business Week, US News & World Report, etc. The more data we have the better we can fare in the rankings! This helps Fisher’s reputation.
- Our Career Management Annual Report.
- Our web site – includes information on average salary offers, by major and geographic location of jobs and internships accepted by Fisher students; as well as Information on graduate school plans and study abroad.
- The information is used by staff to coordinate internship visits (usually in the summer).
