Internship Success Story

Chase

Andrew Wallace

What did you do?
Throughout the summer, the investment strategy of the firm had been to use structured investments in client portfolios. So, I helped incorporate these structures into our model portfolios, then analyzed how we could fit these models to each client.

What was the most important thing you learned?
What makes one intern stand out from another is the amount of initiative one has. You could be the smartest, best spreadsheet maker ever, but if you don't show your co-workers that you really want to get your hands dirty, they won't know to give you projects. Also, don't feel above doing filing either... we may feel entitled to doing sexier things, but someone has to do it, so take the initiative and do it.

What advice would you give others?
The best thing you can do for yourself in searching for an internship is to use your network. Let's be honest, its nearly impossible to get an internship by applying online. Talk to your friends, family, and especially our Career Management office.... they are all willing to help.
