A marketing executive from media conglomerate Viacom, Inc. kicked of the first week of the Black MBA Association Leadership Speaker Series.

Brucetta Williams shared the secrets of her success at Viacom, the parent-company of Comedy Central, MTV and Paramount Pictures.  The series, honoring Black History Month, includes executive lectures from companies such as P&G, Nationwide and Intel.

On Feb. 14, Ken Robinson, vice president of internal global audit for P&G is guest, and Frank Sanders, director of sourcing for Intel, will wrap up the series on Feb. 21.

Williams, vice president of consumer marketing for BET Networks, told students to surround themselves with good people.

“She really stressed that to us,” said Cedric Chambers, a first-year student in the Master of Human Resource Management program and a Black MBA association board member. “She said people should create their own personal boards of directors, people who can provide mentorship, advice and even act as a sponsor or advocate.”

Williams, a 15-year veteran of the network, received her undergraduate degree from Spelman College and her MBA in marketing from Iowa’s Tippie College of Business.
