Fisher alumnus creates video to "pay it forward" to alma mater

Yaves Ellis, a Fisher alumnus from the class of 2010, produced the video Buckeye Tall as a way to 'pay-it-forward' to his alma mater. Ellis founded his company, Slingshot Media Group.

Fisher student helps university with conservation effort

Alec Janda works on Ohio State rainwater catchment system.

Aparna Dial, director of Ohio State's Energy Services and Sustainability, often has students drop conservation ideas on her desk. But when she tells them they need to do some more legwork to move their ideas forward, she usually never sees them again.

That's what made Alec Janda, a Fisher student majoring in marketing, such a surprise. In 2010, the freshman called Dial after seeing her speak at fall orientation — that alone was a first for Dial. He wanted Ohio State to install a rainwater catchment system to do one of two things (or both): Mitigate storm water runoff and create a potable supply of fresh water for reuse by plants and people.

"In my 12 years here, Alec is certainly one of a kind," Dial said.

Isaac, point-man on financial crises, speaks to Fisher graduate students

When the nation's two largest financial disasters hit, more than two decades apart, there was one person who became the go-to-man: William M. Isaac (pictured above right).

Isaac was the chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation during the 1980s savings and loan crisis, which was compounded by serious inflation.

Isaac shared his recollections and lessons learned from the 1980s and the 2008 banking crisis as a Distinguished Guest Speaker at Fisher before a capacity audience of Fisher graduate students and Moritz law students on Oct. 4. Read More >>
