The award was given on April 6 during an academic ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of ICADE. In a press release announcing the award, the university said: "He has had an outstanding career in teaching and in research focused on strategy and management. He has brought a humanistic approach to these fields, in contrast to many of his academic colleagues. This approach to problems in entrepreneurial management, in addition to his contributions as a teacher and researcher, have brought him considerable recognition." Noting that Barney was one of the most cited scholars in his field, Paloma Bilboa, head of the university's International Business Sciences and professor in the Faculty of Economic Sciences, said: "Essentially, Professor Barney's contributions help us understand that the economics and management, the quantitative and the human aspects, can and must coexist in the management of the firm. His work encourages to think that this ambiguous character of the firm is precisely the key to its success." Camp receives entrepreneurship award; Inc. magazine calls his class ten best in nation by Inc. magazine
Likening Michael Camp (pictured right) to "those reality-show hosts who crawl around in basements ferreting out neglected antiques," Inc. magazine ranked his Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization course among the 10 best entrepreneurship courses in the nation. Camp, academic director for the Center for Entrepreneurship, also was awarded the Freedoms Foundation's Leavey Awards for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education in March. The award honors outstanding teachers for bringing passion and creativity to their classrooms as they teach students about entrepreneurship and the free enterprise system. It was Camp's "passion" that was also noted in the Inc. article describing Camp's course. Camp "scours the labs at his university and outside research organizations for technologies that never gained commercial traction," the magazine reported. The article, cited O2 Insights, a company launched in Camp's course last year, as an example of a business success story. |
