Fisher to house university’s Technology Commercialization CenterOhio State University is strengthening its efforts to realize the full potential of faculty research to improve lives and spur economic development through the creation of a comprehensive new commercialization center. The new approach, housed within Fisher College of Business, is a unique model among universities. This represents a new collaboration between faculty inventors and business, emphasizing partnerships with the Colleges of Engineering, Food Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, Business, Law, and the Office of Research. "Universities are generating the ideas and discoveries that will drive the new economy of the 21st century. To fully realize Ohio State’s contributions to the state and the nation, we must assure that the innovative work of our faculty – in health care, advanced materials and agriculture, among other areas – moves from research to results," said Ohio State President E. Poon at the 2010 Pace Setters Awards. Sander A. Flaum was the recipient of the executive award at the 2010 Pace Setters Awards, held in the Overmyer Ballroom at the Blackwell Inn on Wednesday May 12. Winners for teaching awards were: Anthony Rucci, Venkat Bendapudi, Peter Ward and Isil Eral Koksal. Student recipients were Rebecca Fiorini, Kathryn Deye, Catalina Lizarralde Marino, Anna Szerszen and Faraz Khan. In it’s 50th year, the Pace Setters Award is the college’s highest honor, awarded to the top students and faculty in the college on the basis of leadership in both academics and service to the Fisher community. Fisher celebrates the class of 2010![]() Bill Shkurti, the retired senior vice president for business and finance at Ohio State, was the speaker for the MAcc Graduation Ceremony; while Russ Klein, the former chief marketing officer for Burger King, delivered the graduation address to graduate students at the Fisher Graduation Ceremony. Fisher graduate programs receive top-ten U.S. News rankings; MBA programs stand-outFisher's graduate programs made solid gains in U.S. News and World Report’s rankings with three programs placing in the top ten in the magazine’s "America’s Best Graduate Schools" guide. The full-time MBA program made substantial gains this year rising to number 21 (and 6th among public universities) from 26th place last year and 30th previously. In a new ranking of part-time MBA programs, Fisher was ranked 10th among 314 schools offering the program. Fisher’s Production and Operations program climbed to 10th from 14th place since last year, and Supply Chain/Logistics was ranked eighth, falling one place over last year. The U.S. News rankings also revealed Fisher’s national leadership in employment outcomes of its graduates. Fisher’s post-graduation employment rate soared above nearly every MBA program ranked by the magazine. Ninety percent (90.3 percent) of our full-time MBA graduates were employed three months after graduation, placing Fisher second nationwide of the top 30 business schools ranked in the guide. In a "Surprise" This-Is-Your-Life" moment that included an in-class ambush by Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee, Provost and Executive Vice President Joe Alutto, Alumni Association President Archie Griffin, Fisher Dean Christine Poon and a dozen others, Jay Dial was awarded the 2010 Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching on Thursday, April 15 in front of his strategy class in Gerlach Hall. With a video camera rolling and flashes from university photographers, Gee and the large entourage that included Dial’s wife Aparna and son Bennett and David Greenberger, chair of Management Human Resources, burst in on the class to make the presentation. Griffin presented Dial with the "Academy of Teaching" medal. "He is truly one of our most distinguished faculty and teachers," said Gee, who read from one student’s nomination essay: " ’He works our butts off and I learn a tremendous amount from him. He’s the best.’" Wruck wins leadership award from Association of Staff and Faculty Women at Ohio State
The award recognizes a university woman who exhibits "a special kind of leadership." According to the award’s criteria, the (recipient) instills in others a sense of confidence to succeed, promotes a greater understanding of others, bridges differences and encourages co-workers and friends to collaborate and cooperate.” One award nominator wrote about Wruck: "Karen considers the opportunities for growth that will be offered to prospective students who may have less traditional backgrounds. She is always able to find positive character traits in people and is supportive of individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic…She always makes herself available for students that seek her counsel and enjoys acting as a mentor to them." The award is named after Mary Ann Williams, a poet, playwright, actress and theatrical director, she joined the Ohio State faculty in 1971. She was president of ASFW from 1990 until her death in 1991 at the age 46. CIBER receives funding from U.S. Department of Education![]() Emerging Market Field Study trips are one of the educational programs supported by Fisher's CIBER and International Programs Office. The U.S. Department of Education has approved funding for the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) program housed at Fisher. The grant of $1.5 million over four years is an increase of $188,000 over the previous funding period. The grant is Ohio State’s fifth consecutive award in the competitive proposal process. The mission of the CIBER program is to provide a supportive framework for the development of international business teaching, outreach and research. Each CIBER provides programming to link the manpower and technological needs of the U.S. business community with the international education, language training and research capacities of universities across the country. One of 33 CIBERs in the United States, Ohio State’s CIBER program was established in 1995. Read More>> |
