You Need to Know
Ohio State will sponsor a series of rider recruitment events in the coming weeks for Pelotonia 2010, the bike tour that raises money for research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James).
Each event will include information on riding in, volunteering for or donating to Pelotonia (100 percent of every dollar raised goes directly to cancer research at the OSUCCC - James), as well as music, special guests and fundraising ideas. Food and beverages also will be available. More information and event dates can be found at the onCampus Web site.

O2Insights wins Fisher Business Plan Competition; undergrads honored for OutCold LLC
MBA candidate Robert Rushenberg, of O2Insights, speaks during the final presentation for the 2010 Fisher Business Plan Competition. This year, 23 Fisher students were represented among the six finalist teams.
O2Insights, a business team offering an advanced oxygen sensor implant to help doctors diagnose wound infections and diseases with greater speed and ease than current techniques, won the 2010 Fisher Business Plan Competition.
Now in its ninth year, the competition attracted 90 teams with nearly 75 business cases submitted. First place winners received $15,000 in cash and up to $70,000 of in-kind services, such as legal advice, tax preparation, office space and business consultation. Second-place team was Bio-Aerogels and third-place went to Fung-Gone.
Top undergraduate entrepreneur award went to the team for Outcold, LLC. Finance majors Alexander Bishop and Jon Schick, who are both seniors pursuing entrepreneurship minors, also recently won the 2010 Tepper School of Business Venture Challenge (TVC). The Tepper Venture Challenge is an annual, undergraduate-only business plan competition held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
Bishop and Schick are featured in a video about the year-long competition.
“This year’s competition included some of the top business plans we have ever seen,” said Michael Camp, academic director for the Center for Entrepreneurship. “All of the winning teams represent viable investable business opportunities.” Read More>>
Shkurti, Klein keynote speakers for Fisher commencement programs
The EMBA Cohort of 2010 are among the first Fisher programs to kick-off the spring commencement season. Click on "slideshow" to see highlights of EMBA graduation activities.
Bill Shkurti, the retired senior vice president for business and finance at Ohio State, will be the speaker for the MAcc Graduation Ceremony; while Russ Klein, the former chief marketing officer for Burger King, will deliver the graduation address to graduate students at the Fisher Graduation Ceremony.
The MAcc Graduation ceremony will be held from 4:30-6:30, Friday, June 11 at the Blackwell Inn’s Overymyer Ballroom. On June 12 at 9 a.m., a ceremony will be held for MBA, MBLE and MLHR graduates at Mershon Auditorium. The Ohio State University will confer degrees for more than 300 Fisher master and doctoral candidates and Fisher’s 821 undergraduates at the June 13 spring commencement at Ohio Stadium. Read More >>
Fisher cycling team helps to raise money for water wells for communities in Kenya
Thirteen of the 14 members of Tour de H20's Team Fisher gathered at Battelle Darby Creek Park before the start of the fundraising bicycle ride. The May 22 charity bicycle ride was held to raise money to build two water wells to provide clean water for communities in Western Kenya. The ride exceeded its fundraising goal by $5,000; raising $20,000 for the water well project.
Margie Bogenschutz, the sandwich, popular menu item at Sloopy's Diner at the Ohio Union
Like its human counterpart, Margie Bogenschutz The Sandwich is warm, sweet, generous and popular on campus. Margie Bogenschutz, the human, (pictured above holding her namesake sandwich) received word in March that a sandwich on the menu of Sloopy's Diner at the new Ohio Union would be named after her.
The barbeque pulled chicken sandwich is topped with cole slaw on a ciabatta sandwich roll. The sandwich has gone on to become one of the diner's most popular items. The week of April 8 it was the number-one selling sandwich with 470 sold.
