CIBER Case Challenge
FISHER NEWS VIDEO: Ten business schools from around the world participated in the 2009 CIBER Case Challenge last weekend. This year, instead of pitting university against university, students were randomly divided up and formed into new teams, with at least one international student on each team. Fisher MBA ranks in the top 25
in two surveys released this month

Fisher was ranked 24th in the Beyond Grey Pinstripes Global 100 ranking for 2009. More than 149 schools participated, according to the Aspen Institute, which conducts the survey. Results of two other rankings for MBA and EMBA programs in the Financial Times and The Economist were also released this week.

The Beyond Grey Pinstripes ranking survey is a research survey and alternative ranking of business schools that spotlights innovative full-time MBA programs leading the way in the integration of issues concerning social and environmental stewardship in the curriculum. Read More>>

Camp presents 2008 Ohio Venture Capital Report at the Statehouse

According to a recent study conducted by the Center for Entrepreneurship at Fisher, venture-capital investment in Ohio is growing and is a bright spot in the state’s economic picture.

The total venture-capital investment in Ohio last year was $446 million in 196 companies, ranking Ohio 13th in the nation in total investment, Michael Camp, academic director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and an author of the study, told participants at the Ohio Capital Fund’s Annual Early Stage Summit last week.

18 schools compete in 2009 Biz Quiz

The Fisher team of Tyler Dodd, Pinank Patel and Gopika Ranganathan compete in the 2008 Nationwide Fisher Biz Quiz.

University of Arizona, Texas A&M, University of North Carolina, Babson College and of course, the University of Michigan, are among the 18 schools along with The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business vying to prove they are on top of today’s red-hot business news at the 2009 Nationwide Fisher Biz Quiz.

Biz Quiz, a fast-paced quiz show that tests students’ knowledge of critical business news, will be held Nov. 7-8 at Schoenbaum Hall on the Fisher campus. The event is sponsored by Nationwide’s Financial Leadership Rotation Program.

Students from across the nation participate in Leadership and Creativity Symposium

Professor Tony Rucci (pictured right),associate to the dean for Executive Programs, conducts a session on leadership at the 2009 Minority Undergraduate Student Leadership and Creativity Symposium sponsored by KeyBank and hosted by Fisher.

Forty-one students from 16 universities from Washington State to Rhode Island attended the three-day sessions. The symposium is designed to help students develop skills in leadership, creativity, entrepreneurial thinking, business presentation and communications.

Sessions were also presented by David Schilling, professor of Management Sciences, Artie Isaac, a creativity consultant, Lutonda Baumgardner, a human resources manager for Express, LLC and Marquita Lanier, an employee services coordinator for NetJets, Inc. The symposium was developed and designed by Rao Unnava, associate dean for undergraduate programs, and Fisher’s Office of Minority Student Services.
Fisher researchers study business leaders' communication styles

“It’s not just what leaders say; it’s also how they say it,” say Neeli Bendapudi and Venkat Bendapudi.

That was the key finding in their research of communication styles of business leaders. A preview of the study was published last month in Harvard Business Review.

Neeli and Venkat, who teach marketing and human resource management respectively, interviewed several business leaders across the country to learn what techniques they utilized to make their messages more meaningful to employees.
