Black History Month Events Announced
The Black MBA Association will be holding a series of events through
the month of February in celebration of Black History Month. The events
will include:
- February 3– dinner with Omarosa Manigault Stallworth,
an alumna from the hit television show “The Apprentice."
- February 5 - James Hill, management sciences assistant
professor and Christina M. Ballenger, assistant director
of MBA programs, will attend the BMBAA general meeting between
10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in 255 Gerlach Hall to discuss“A Roadmap to
Success, the Journey Within.”
- February 9 – An executive lunch with Farrah Gray will take place at 12:30 p.m. Author of the book “Reallionaire,” Gray will speak about how he went from living in the projects of Chicago to becoming a millionaire by age 14.
- February 10 - An executive lunch with John Begley, field vice president for American Express at 12:30 p.m. in Gerlach 275 to discuss financial wellness, debt management and career opportunities, with AMEX.
- February 11– As part of the Sander Flaum Leadership Speaker Series, Donna James of Nationwide will speak between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
- February 17 - National Black MBA General Body Meeting will take place between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., at JP Morgan Chase, 1111 Polaris Parkway. JP Morgan Chase representatives will discuss job opportunities within their organization. Networking will occur from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
- February 24 - The Black MBA Association will explore the global perspective of Black cultures between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., in 265 Gerlach Hall.

Part-time MBA Students Win Fast-Pitch Competition at TopCat Awards Program
Part-time MBA students Michael Meeker,
Jonathan Rush and James Spaulding and computer science
and engineering graduate student Thomas Mampilly won the Fast-Pitch
Competition at the Columbus Technology Councils TopCat Awards
program. In front of 650 community business leaders, the team gave
a two-minute business pitch on their idea, called Freshness Indicator,
a special ink that is stamped on refrigerated food products indicating
the warmest temperature the product has reached during its various
stages of distribution. More

to Speak at Fisher Thought Leaders Series
Marketing
Professor Roger Blackwell will be speaking to faculty, staff
and graduate students as part of the Fisher Thought Leaders
speaker series on Friday, February 4 in 305 Gerlach Hall. After
an 8 a.m. continental breakfast, Blackwell will present research on
Consumer Driven Health Care (CDHC): The New Weapon in Americas
War on Health Care Costs, based on a book he co-authored with
Tom Williams, clinical associate professor of surgery at Ohio State.
The presentation focuses on why the U.S. is at a serious disadvantage
to other nations because of health care costs, why jobs are threatened,
why the problem developed and how consumers are forcing employers
to face a new health care paradigm in which consumers drive health
care instead of third-party payers.

For
folks who aspire to stardom, NBC is hosting a casting call for its
popular reality television show, The Apprentice, and its new
spinoff show, The Apprentice:Martha Stewart. For individuals
ages 21 and up, an open casting call will take place at The Blackwell

The Power of the Pen: Story Writing Impacts Consumer Experience
Memories
are stored and remembered easily in story form, according to a new
study published in the Dec. 2004 issue of the Journal of Consumer
Research.
The study was conducted by Patricia West, associate professor
of marketing at Ohio State's Fisher College of Business, along with
Joel Huber, professor of marketing at Duke Universitys Fuqua
School of Business and Kyeong Sam Min, assistant professor of marketing
at the University of South Dakota. In the study, the researchers asked
subjects to view German Expressionist paintings and write stories
about the paintings. The result was that writing a story increases
the writer's preference for a given painting. More

Career Services Hosts Internship Invitational
Fisher College's Office of Career Services will host the Fisher Internship Invitational from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Feb. 3 at Blackwell Ballrooms. Numerous employers will be on hand to recruit undergraduate and graduate students for internship positions. Information about the participating companies can be picked up at the Office of Career Services in 150 Gerlach Hall.
Summer Study Abroad in France
An information session for undergraduate students will take place
in 310 Schoenbaum Hall on Monday, February 7 at 5:30 p.m. Students
can study international business in France over the summer, earning
graded Ohio State credit that counts toward their major. They will
learn about the enviroment of business in Europe and the dramatic
changes faced by the European Union. Classes are taught in English
with an optional French language course. Students will live with a

Nationwide Exec to Speak at Development Series
Donna James, president of Nationwide Strategic Investments, part
of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, will speak at the Sander

TLA Banquet
The Transportation and Logistics Association is holding a banquet
on February 22, at 6:30 p.m. at The Blackwell. John Bowman,
general manager of supply chain for GE Transportation, Aircraft
