Receives NSF Grant for Supply Chain Research
Nicholas
G. Hall, professor of management sciences, was awarded a $150,000
grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for his work on a
two-year study, Supply Chain Scheduling. The proposed
research represents a fundamentally new direction within the study
of supply chain manufacturing. Much of traditional supply chain
manufacturing research is misguided because it focuses on strategic
decisions in which uncertainty is a major issue, said Hall.

Rice
Named President of MBA Career Services Council
Jeff Rice, director of career services,
was elected president of the MBA Career Services Council (MBA CSC),
to take effect in June 2005. Rice joined Ohio States Fisher
College of Business in 1992 as associate to the dean for career services,
where he manages a career services staff of eleven full-time professionals
and nine graduate assistants.
The MBA CSC is a global association of MBA career professionals and
is dedicated to setting standards of excellence for the profession
and to be the source for valuable MBA employment and market information.
The council has 300 members representing 210 universities worldwide
and has extended its membership to include employer and affiliate
professionals responsible for college or university graduate-level
employment.

Fisher
First-Year Case Competition to Take Place
The Fisher First-Year Case Competition
will take place in Gerlach Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on January 21
and 22. It allows first-year MBA students to test their skills and
abilities in both case analysis and presentation. Students form teams
of four members each and receive a case on Friday morning with 24
hours to analyze and prepare a 20 minute presentation to the case
firm's board of directors, recommending a course of action. Teams
are judged by a panel of faculty and executives. Members of the winning
team and individuals winning outstanding speaker and question and
answer awards are eligible for a slot on Fisher's Big 10 Case Competition
team.

Finance Association Hosts Seminar
The
MBA Finance Association will be hosting an investment banking seminar
on Friday, January 28. Seven seminars are planned for the day. Speakers
include Alan Patricof, founder, APAX Partners; Jeff Solomon,
managing director, Ramius Capital; Marty Murrer, managing
director, Sagent Advisors; Tom Mitevski, investment advisor,
Fifth Third Bank; and Frank Wojcik, senior portfolio manager,
Fifth Third Bank. The event will begin at 9 a.m., and will conclude

The Department of Marketing and Logistics Research Colloquium will
take place at 10:30 a.m. in 500 Fisher Hall. Fisher College professors
Thomas Otter and Greg M. Allenby and Ohio State professor Trish Van
Zandt, will present, "An Integrated Model of Choice and Response
Time with Applications to Conjoint Analysis.

Ph.D. candidate Yinglei Zhang will speak on her paper Net
Operating Assets as a Predictor of Future Stock Returns: An Industry
Analysis, at the Thomas J. Burns Research Colloquium at 8:45
a.m. in 400A Fisher.

View Point Hosts Komen Fundraiser
Student workers at the View Point will have a fundraiser supporting
the Columbus affiliate of the Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for the
week of Jan. 24. Decorations and menu items that have the color pink
will be used to promote the knowledge of breast cancer. The View Point
will be open for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday through Friday
and for dinner from 4:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday.
Business Plan Competition Call for Entries
The Center for Entrepreneurship is now accepting registrations
for the 2005 Deloitte Business Plan Competition. Potential participants
can get all the information about the competition and sign up their
teams online until February 6 at www.entrepreneurship.osu.edu.
