Applicants for the MHRM degree program must have completed (or will complete prior to enrollment) a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Applicants' academic record should demonstrate an ability to pursue graduate studies in the human resources field. An undergraduate degree in business is neither required nor preferred for admission to the program.
We urge you to start your application process early. Allowing time to fully prepare your application will enable you to devote sufficient resources and thought to each step without rushing yourself or the third parties who will write your letters of recommendation. Preparing your application is your chance to shine and distinguish yourself among your peers. Devoting time and thought to putting your best foot forward will be well worth your effort.
Our application process varies slightly for domestic and international applicants but in general requires similar core elements including:
The Ohio State University does not recognize a three-year bachelor’s degree to be comparable to the American bachelor’s degree. One of the basic requirements for admission to Fisher is the completion of an American bachelor’s degree or its equivalent prior to matriculation.
You are required to submit transcripts from each undergraduate and graduate institution attended. Coursework from one institution reported as transfer credit on another school's transcript does not meet Ohio State's definition of a transcript. Separate transcripts must be submitted if you received any transfer credit from another university(ies). Ohio State will not accept web reports, advising reports, self-reported scores, or transfer credit on another school’s transcript in lieu of official transcripts.
Transcripts should include all work previously completed and work currently in progress. If you have taken courses at The Ohio State University, (or are), you do not need to submit transcripts for those grades as the Admissions Office will obtain your Ohio State grades directly from the University Registrar’s Office.
The MHRM Admissions Committee will review scanned copies of official transcripts uploaded in your application for evaluation purposes. If you are admitted to Fisher, you will be required to submit final official transcripts.
You have two choices to submit transcripts as part of the application:
- Option 1: Use the UPLOAD DOCUMENT button in the ACADEMIC INFORMATION section within the online application to upload copies (front and back) of official transcripts from ALL institutions attended where college credit was earned – even if you earned any college credits while in high school. International credentials should include certified educational records and degree certificates or diplomas in the original language with English translations.
- Option 2: Send final official hardcopies of transcript/record of all courses completed for institutions attended to the Graduate Admissions Office.
- Please note: This method may cause your application review to be delayed. If choosing this method, please send your transcripts as early as possible.

All applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Be sure to take it as soon as you are well prepared.
If you are an international applicant, you will also need to demonstrate proficiency in English by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test unless you are from an English-speaking country.
This is your opportunity to showcase your employment history, extracurricular and/or community activities, language skills, and military record, if applicable.
Letters of recommendation
When deciding whom to ask for letters of recommendation, you will want to choose individuals who can attest to your scholarship, professional development, personal character, and overall potential to succeed. Be sure to make your requests in plenty of time to allow respondents to prepare thoughtful, detailed letters on your behalf.
You need at least three (3) references that can speak to your potential to be successful in the program. We recommend at least two of your letters of reference be from academic sources. You will have the opportunity to ask your references to submit either electronic or paper letters of reference on your behalf when you submit your online application.
We cannot overstate the importance of the essays as an opportunity to present yourself to us in a meaningful, in-depth way. We encourage you to invest time in your essays, be genuine, and include examples with the points you make.
Nonrefundable application processing fee
The non refundable application fee is $60 (U.S. Dollars) for United States citizens, permanent residents, or asylees, and $70 (U.S. Dollars) for International students. The fee is paid by credit card at the time that an applicant submits the online application. The application fee should not be sent separately to the Graduate Admissions Office.
