Kim Barnas

Title: Vice President

Company: ThedaCare

 Biography

Kim Barnas has a Master’s of Science in Health Care Administration and currently serves as a ThedaCare System Vice President. Her executive role is rooted in hospital operations for ThedaCare in Appleton Wisconsin, supporting both Appleton Medical Center and Theda Clark Medical Center and now the full ThedaCare System.

Kim has enjoyed the opportunities provided by ThedaCare as they have been on their lean journey for the past 8 years.  The ThedaCare Improvement System (LEAN) path started with Value Stream mapping followed by improvement events, and projects.  She was involved in leading two of the initial Value Streams for OB and Cancer Services.

As the journey continued a new challenge emerged-the need for a systematic method to sustain improvement, clarify daily continuous improvement opportunities and deliver on strategic deployment.  To meet this need, Kim and her team led the development of a management system.  This lean management system is designed to deliver improved performance through a predictable process that identifies defects, solves problems and develops people.

In the next step of the Lean journey, ThedaCare has made the decision to put significant focus and resources towards system wide value streams on complete horizontal business lines.  This work will focus on improving value to the customer by improving quality, productivity and stakeholder engagement across the system. The first of such value streams identified is the Oncology Value Stream.  Kim is leading this new strategy.
