| In recent years,
the Department has averaged more than a dozen articles published in
academic journals. Forty percent of those articles appeared in top
research journals in marketing, logistics, and statistics. A study
by the Society for Consumer Psychology showed that in a recent five-year
period, the department published more articles in journals of primary
interest to consumer researchers than any Big Ten school but Northwestern.
In fact, we were ranked sixth nationally in that survey.
Our faculty include a past Editor of the Journal of Consumer
Research, the Co-Founder and Co-Editor of The International Journal
of Logistics Management, and the founder and first editor of
the Journal of Business Logistics. In addition, our faculty
serve on the editorial boards of the four top academic journals
in marketing and ten other research journals, and several have received
awards for excellence in manuscript reviewing.
The department also houses two research centers. The Global Supply
Chain Forum, directed by Professor Douglas M. Lambert, provides
the opportunity for leading practitioners and academics to pursue
the critical issues related to customer satisfaction and operational
excellence independent of specific functional expertise. The Forum
supports research and publications focused on business applications
and experience of particular relevance to its corporate members,
who are senior executives of firms recognized as being on the leading
edge of their respective industries.
The Supply Chain Management Research Group, led by Professors Bernard
J. La Londe and James L. Ginter, conducts relevant business research
that is valuable to supporting organizations, students, and faculty.
The research focuses on increasing knowledge in the public domain
in the form of working papers, presentations, and publications.
Supporting organizations have immediate access to findings and viewpoints
from working closely with the research teams formed around specific
topics.
Faculty members have received many awards for their research including
the Maynard Award which is given to the author of the Journal of
Marketing article that makes the greatest contribution to marketing,
the Frank Bass Award that is given by TIMS/ORSA for the best article
in Marketing Science, Management Science or Operations Research
based on a dissertation, best paper in International Journal of
Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, Council of
Logistics Management Founders Award for the article that has made
a profound impact on the theory and practice of logistics management,
best academic paper presented at American Marketing Association
summer conference, and two recipients in separate years of the Andersen
Consulting Award for the outstanding paper in the International
Journal of Logistics Management. |
