Paris, France is considered a premier centre of economic activity.  It is not only the wealthiest area of France, but has one of the highest GDPs in the world, after Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles and London, making it an engine driving the global economy. The Parisian economy has gradually shifted towards high-value-added service industries (finance, IT services, etc.) and high-tech manufacturing (electronics, optics, aerospace, etc.).  However, in the 2009 European Green City Index, Paris was listed as the second most "green" large city in Europe, after Berlin.  While the Paris economy is largely dominated by services, it remains an important manufacturing powerhouse of Europe, especially in industrial sectors such as automobiles, aeronautics, and electronics. 

The eight-week unpaid internship program provides an opportunity for you to obtain a meaningful business-related work experience in fields related to your future career goals.  In addition to the professional internship, you’ll receive supplemental training through a Global Skills Training in-country program.

Program Cost

Program cost for the France Summer Global Internship Program is $6,290 USD.  

  • $1,000 Non-Refundable deposit payable upon acceptance into the program.
  • Final payment payable no later than February 15, 2014.  
  • $100 late fee will be assessed if students fail to pay by the established deadlines.

Accommodations

  • Shared accommodations in Paris' central city district. Includes kitchen facilities, close to bus, rail, cafes and shops.

Global Skills Training Program 

  • Through participation in the Global Skills Training, interns are coached to successfully develop skills critical for navigating effectively in today’s global environment.  After completing this training, participants will be able to highlight these new skills and perspectives for future employers:

Transportation

  • Arrival in Paris:  Pick-up at airport and transfer to accommodations
  • Departure from Paris:  Return to airport at end of program

Orientation Program and Activities

  • Welcome, Orientation meeting, and Global Skills Training

Internship Placement

  • Placement in an eight-week unpaid internship with a company, organization, or government agency relevant to your interest (in workplace Monday through Friday for eight weeks).
  • Updated Resume/CV PDF must be submitted with your Program Application and will be shared with in-country managers and potential internship hosts
  • Once you're approved for the Program, you'll 
    • receive an congratulatory email with instructions to pay your deposit,
    • review requirements with an in-country program advisor, 
    • review potential internship descriptions, 
    • prepare with the in-country manager to match companies with language fluency (You do not have to be fluent in French to participate),
    • learn country-specific career tips,
    • skype interview directly with host companies 
    • have a great internship experience!

Resident Director

  • In-country resident director support will be available during the program's duration.

Visa

  • Assistance to complete the local U.K. work authorization

Pre-Departure Orientation

  • In-country partner will travel to Ohio State and participate in the required Pre-Departure meetings

NOT INCLUDED IN PROGRAM COST:

  • Roundtrip Airfare to and from Paris, France
  • Required International HTH Student Health Insurance (approximately $75)
  • Transportation in-city (bus, train, ferry, will vary based on internship location, approximately $25 per week)

Bullet Course Description

Doing Business in FRANCE

A one-credit class, BUSADM 4189, Advanced Field Study, scheduled during Spring Semester, second 7-week session, will be required of all global internship students.  Graded as P/F, the Doing Business in France course will prepare students to better understand the dynamics of doing business in this region, as well as insight how to assimilate into the French culture. Additional content will cover pre-departure information to prepare students to depart.

Bullet Eligibility Requirements

The France Summer Internship Program is available to students who meet the following qualifications:

  • Fully Admitted to Fisher College of Business prior to going in-country
  • Rising Juniors or Rising Seniors
  • Have GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Valid Visa:  to apply or renew your passport, go to Travel.State.Gov (passport expiration date must be after January 1, 2015)

Bullet Depositis and Payments

  • Payment Option: 
    • Payment details and link will be sent via your Acceptance Email
    • $1,000 non-refundable deposit is due AFTER you have received an acceptance email with payment instructions
    • Final program payment due no later than February 15, 2014

*Your deposit is only refundable if you are not accepted into the program.

Bullet Embassy Registration

  • As an added precaution, we request all students register with the US Department of State Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
  • Students enter their travel information so that the Department of State can better assist in emergencies.

Bullet Group Flight Information

  • Do not purchase your airfare until you have been officially accepted into the program.
  • Information to purchase your group airfare will be sent via your Acceptance Email.

Bullet Insurance

  • All students participating in study abroad programs offered through the Fisher College of Business are required to enroll in supplemental travel insurance. Students should carry their insurance card with them at all times while traveling in-country.
  • The Ohio State University supplemental travel insurance is provided through HTH Worldwide Services. This supplemental insurance includes a policy covering accident and sickness and for emergency assistance, evacuation and repatriation.
  • To register for HTH Supplemental Insurance, please consult "Applying Online for Supplemental Travel Insurance" found at the Office of International Affairs insurance website.

Bullet International Students

  • In order to participate, international students must be able to obtain all required travel visas and confirm their eligibility to return to the US after the program (i.e., a multiple entry visa).
  • All students/international scholars holding a US visa who are participating in an Office of Global Business (OGB) program must schedule an appointment with an Office of International Affairs (OIA) International Student Services advisor.
  • Students will be asked to provide evidence of this meeting by submitting a Fisher International Student OIA Form.

 

Students who do not submit their Fisher International Student OIA Form within two (2) weeks of their pre-acceptance into the program, will NOT be permitted to continue with the program. Please note, students will NOT receive a refund of their initial $500 deposit.

Bullet Passports

  • If needed, the costs associated with applying for or renewing a passport are not included in the total price of the program.
  • All students (international and domestic) must have passports valid at least six (6) months past the dates of travel.
  • If you are a US citizen but do not currently have a passport and you are selected to participate in the program, you should apply for your passport as soon as possible. You must have your passport at least three (3) months prior to departure to allow time to process a visa if required.

Bullet Vaccinations

  • If needed, vaccination costs are not included in the total price of the program.
  • Vaccinations vary by individual and location. As it may be a substantial cost, please consider this expense before registering.

 

Students should visit the Center for Disease Control website for suggested vaccinations and related health information for travel in their destination country.

Bullet Visas

  • You will need a valid Visa. Upon acceptance into the program, you will receive an email stating what type of VISA to obtain. PLEASE WAIT FOR THE EMAIL BEFORE OBTAINING YOUR VISA.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT JOYCE STEFFAN AT steffan.10@osu.edu
  • Obtaining a visa can be a complex process, however, recruiters will assist you through the process to ensure that you are securing the correct visa. However, you will have to do all the necessary work to complete the actual end result.
  • The costs associated with applying for a visa to your program country is not included in the total price of the program.
  • Visas vary by destination and student nationality. To better understand visa requirements, students should consult the embassy of the country where they will be located.
  • As it may take some time to process a visa, please prepare in advance, applying for a visa at least two (2) months before your departure date.
  • For United States citizens, please consult the U.S. Department of State for specific visa requirements.
  • International students must confirm their eligibility to return to the U.S. after the program (i.e., a multiple entry visa). The costs associated with U.S. visas are not covered by the program.
