BA 698H Emerging Markets Field Study

Panama

The Undergraduate EMFS course (BA 698 Honors) gives students the opportunity to learn about businesses in emerging markets, and experience their operations and challenges first-hand.  In the past, the trip has taken students to tour businesses in countries such as Panama.

The EMFS course counts as credit for one of the following requirements: International Business Elective, Contemporary World, or Upper-level Economics. It is a four credit hour course. The on-campus portion of the course is held on Fridays from 10:30 to 1:30 during the Autumn Quarter. Seats are limited. GPA will be considered in the selection process and honor students are given priority.

Class attendance is required, as is the field trip, which involves visiting a variety of companies as well as some cultural activities.  Travel is scheduled over Winter Break.  Flights are often scheduled to depart the Friday of finals week and return the following Friday.

The undergraduate EMFS course will be offered to students who will be juniors and seniors the Autumn quarter.   Preference will be given to Honors students. Students are selected based on Academic Standing and GPA.

Students must have already taken or currently be taking BA 555 as a pre-requisite for this class. In some cases, we may evaluate this pre-requisite.  Students will be notified of selection prior to the summer quarter.

A $750 deposit is required at the time of application.  It will be refunded to you should you not be admitted to the course.

"I had the opportunity to take my MBA classes at the University of British Columbia for one quarter through an exchange partnership.  Living and studying in Vancouver has been one of the highlights of my Fisher experience, and I was amazed how easily it could be arranged through the International Programs Office.  I am also going to Hong Kong with the Emerging Markets Field Study course, and am looking forward to my first experience being in Asia. The International Programs Office and CIBER has so much to offer - it's not a matter of being able to find opportunities, but rather a matter of deciding which opportunities you will pursue."
