Peter H. Edwards is Chairman of the Board of Edwards Companies, a privately held, family-owned corporation that acts as a holding company for numerous operating companies engaged in the businesses of real estate development, single and multi-family home building, and Installed Building Products (insulation, closet shelving, mirrors, etc.).
In 1962, Mr. Edwards formed Multicon, which he grew into the 2nd largest luxury garden apartment development company in the country. When it was purchased by Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1970, Multicon had built, owned, and managed more than 20,000 dwellings in major cities in the eastern half of the United States. Edwards Communities Management and Edwards Communities Development Company were formed in 1990 to build and own upscale, resort-style apartment communities.
In 2001, Mr. Edwards branched into the student housing market. The student housing company to date has built over 4,000 beds and has another 3,100 beds that will start by June of 2008.
Installed Building Products (IBP) is another Edwards’s company. It is a leader in installation services and has revenues of $350 million. IBP’s customers total over 5,000 including local, regional and national homebuilders. Single family housing construction centers on Duffy Homes, which builds custom homes and condominium units. In addition to housing construction, Mr. Edwards has developed approximately 500,000 square feet of office space and over 3,000 single-family real estate lots.
Mr. Edwards also spearheaded the development of the Brewery District, a $55 million renovation project in downtown Columbus, which brought new life and identity to an area that was badly neglected for many years.
Another achievement is Tuttle Crossing. Tuttle Crossing is an 800-acre, mixed-use development centered around the first privately funded full-diamond interstate interchange. This diverse complex has over 8 million square feet of office, a regional mall, numerous restaurants, and a large number of hotels and support facilities.
A lifetime resident of Columbus, Mr. Edwards serves on the board of several companies and is active in community affairs. He remains involved in the day-to-day workings of the business that bears his name.
