Arrival in the United
States
It is recommended that each student arrives
in the US with at least $150 in American currency and/or a major
credit card to cover their initial expenses in the US including
transportation from the Columbus airport to their hotel or local
residence. The Department of Finance may be able to arrange for
individual and/or family pick-ups at the airport, depending on
your arrival date and time. Students will be notified in
advance if this service is available.
Visas
We will provide the required paperwork so
students can apply for F-1 visas for the period of their studies
at OSU. Students must provide photocopies of the photo and
information page of their passports prior to arriving in the US,
and present their original passports and visas to KAIST program
administration once they arrive in the US. More detailed
information about visas can be found at
www.oia.osu.edu.
Medical Insurance
Every
student participating in the KAIST program at Fisher College
must have a health insurance plan that meets the minimum
requirements in place for students holding F-1 visas. As
official OSU students, participants in the program are
eligible for Student Health Insurance, which can also cover
family members. Students will be enrolled first, and upon
arrival, students can choose to add their family members.
Instructions for doing so will be provided to all students
at program orientation. For more detailed information about
international student health insurance, go to
www.shi.osu.edu , or
www.oia.osu.edu. Students are not
required to purchase the OSU Student Health Insurance, as
long as they can provide proof of alternative coverage.
Information on how to do so is available at the Student
Health Insurance (SHI) website listed above.
Communication During Program
In order to allow for prompt and effective
communication between KAIST students and program management, it
is required that each student check their Fisher e-mail account
once a day for the duration of the program. It is crucial that
all students check their e-mail and maintain contact with
program administrators, as they often e-mail very important
information to all KAIST students about a variety of issues,
such as visa requirements, registration information, course
schedules, course cancellations, etc.
